It could be a US thing, where liberal is used to describe Dems and conservative, Republicans. So liberal is ‘left’ in the states, where it’s the left-faction of the capitalist party. What most people don’t realise is that Conservatives still self-identify as one or another type of liberal and they almost all, ‘left’- and ‘right’-leaning liberal refer to the same handful of books as the basis of their ideology. That’s because liberalism is the ideology of capitalism, fundamentally opposed to socialism.
