I wish. Don’t think I can justify the price yet! Enjoy though. Getting amazing reviews.
Same. Not because it isn’t necessarily worth it, but because I’m broke.
Def worth the price tag if you got the cash in hand.
Just a note for all y’all Deckers, set Proton Experimental in settings to get it to boot.
Thanks for this! I just got home from work and was about to do some research on which version I needed to get things working.
I’m on my linux desktop, but Proton Experimental was set for me by default. Maybe you got “run other titles with:” under compatibility settings set to something else?
Edit: seems like Valve has now chosen Proton Hotfix for BG3. Says “Proton Hotfix selected by Valve testing”
Also you can’t do local co op at all
There’s no way this game should be 100GB for the deck. They should have done what Blizzard did with D4 and offered it without the 4k texture pack bloat.
What is it?
Baldur’s Gate 3
I will say to the people saying it’s too expensive I hear you but and I’m sure in a while down the road it will be cheaper but this is totally THE game studio that’s worth $60 for how many hours you can get out of this game.
Also I have to be done with my playthrough by the time we get great mods that add infinite replayability.
No, I am a poor.
Yeah, I’m gonna have to wait for a good sale before I can justify buying yet another game to add to my backlog. I still have entire franchises I want to finally get to.

I woke up and remote downlaoded using my phone and went back to sleeeeeep. But i just found out my dog has congestive heart failure so I haven’t been able to enjoy it :(
I am sorry to hear that. My cat got diagnosed with a heart condition too recently. It just sucks. I recommend taking a few days off if you can and spending some quality time with your doggo.
Best wishes to you and your dog, dear stranger.
That sucks! My pupper had to have surgery after eating a sock, it’s the worst feeling. Hope he gets better
Let us know how it runs on Deck!
I turned it to proton experimental and set everything to low and it’s OK at 40 so far. You get lots of effects early so it might stay stable-ish.
I have mine set to medium with FSR at Ulta and I think it’s pretty good. Need to play more to test other options though
I’ll probably play with settings again. At the point I had it yesterday, I had forgotten to make a space so had to waste time moving games around, then had 10MBb/s for an hour until resetting my router to get 40 and start making progress, so I really just wanted to play.
I wanted to verify that it’s playable. The controller support is a little bit of an adjustment but I don’t think it’s bad.
Controller support is actually quite cool. Seems like they built a whole new layout just for controllers (which makes sense because they’re gonna have this on Xbox/PlayStation). It’s a bit off putting after coming from DoS2 but quickly grows on you.
I want to try and see if I can use the track pad as a mouse instead of the thumb stick though. Would make exploring and navigating menus a bit faster…
I need to play with the controls options more, but I’m wondering if this is an either/or thing where you either use the “controller” scheme or you need to completely map everything for k+m. I tried to go with what seemed to be the most popular community controls and the game alerted me that the controller had disconnected; and weirdly the menu size and layout shrunk and looked different. I’d really like to use a trackpad as a mouse to have that option along with the sticks, but if not I’ll adjust to it. I’ve run into other controller issues, like where it says to hold “select” for the journal but it only works to open the map - you can still press one of the triggers to pull up a wheel with the journal, but it seems like there’s still some bugs to work out.
This is my current set up ad well and it’s rock solid.
Not great. Have to drop it down to 540 with the Deck’s FSR because the in game FSR makes it look incredibly blurry. Also, the FPS cap in game sucks, so you have to do it using the Deck, which adds a ton of input lag.
I didn’t have early access, I bought it straight from steam today. It was 54gb and change 🤷🏻♂️
I wish there was a way to find the actual download size. It says 100+ gigs in the system requirements, which actually put me off from it on a metered connection. 54 is much more doable.
On PC, the download size is 100GB, install size is 122Gb, and the devs recommend 150GB, probably for saves and potentially mods one day.
Yeah OK, that’s what I thought from the specs. Thanks. Idk where OP’s 54gb comes from then.
125+ here…
In retrospect I think I’m an idiot and 52 gigs was what I had available before I made more space by deleting shit.
Ignore me, I’m fairly stupid today.
No worries – I did wonder if maybe you had it on Early Access and 52 gigs was the difference with the official release.
Yeah EA was 50 something gigs and the full release was over 100 for me on steamdeck.
What game is this?
Baldur’s Gate 3
Oh. It looked like some kickass kung-fu comedy game at first. :(
Play as a monk. Bone a bear.
But I don’t want to play this game.
Ok. I’m just pointing out that it’s a “true” RPG, so if you want to play it as a Kung Fu comedy, you can.
To be absolutely honest, the major holdup for me is the camera angle. It makes the game look like yet another RTS or DOTA/League clone, and I got tired of those kind of games in the 90s.
I know that the younger generation is into games with a “retro” look (and I’m proud of them for appreciating the old school), but it just isn’t for me. I prefer games with pretty graphics, a good story, and a first or 3rd person camera. I grew up in an era where bad graphics was the norm and you just had to put up with them, so I was always looking forward to the latest and greatest advancement. Younger people don’t have that problem, so they don’t mind playing games that look dated so long as they’re fun. Not my style.
I don’t think it’s a generational thing, just preference. I’m also old enough to have grown up with potato graphics, and after the Xbox 360 era, I stopped caring about graphics much, I just like solid gameplay. Different strokes for different folks.
FWIW Baldur’s Gate III is a very pretty game, despite the overhead camera.
I’m no spring chicken myself. I started gaming on the Atari VCS, so I’m no stranger to bad graphics.
As for a third person camera, I’ve not actually played the game yet, but it is apparently possible to pay through the game in third person mode.
Oh man. It took me two hours in the character creation screen and one of those two hours was spent deciding on what custom character I was going to play.
Haven’t looked up anything on BG3 and made myself forget that it released in EA a couple of years ago. So far, I’m just utterly amazed by it. Probably going to spend way too much time, that I don’t have, on it. Worth the wait so far.
Whatever you do, DON’T get all the way to nearly completing a character and then change subrace. 😭 Back to zero.
Downloading it on my Deck now and can’t wait to see how it plays! They said FSR2 is coming soon, so hoping that’ll help with performance.
It’s downloading as I’m typing this comment
Do you think I need to play the first 2 before this one?
No, as far as I know there are just some references to the older games. But to understand the story they are not necessary. A general knowledge about Dnd is helpful though.
I’ve got all my knowledge from random tiktoks on my for you page, so pray for me😬
I’ve been playing Dnd for several years now, so it’s kinda hard for me to determine what is common sense and what is just nerd knowledge ingrained into my head. But I think alot of stuff gets explained fairly well. Hope you have fun :D
No, there are references and stuff to the others but it is a self contained story.
Ha. Go for it if you want.
I bought it from GOG, can’t make it run =`(
Can you add it as a non steam game and force proton experimental? That’s what worked for me for the steam version.
I installed using heroic, tried using proton experimental with no results. Then added to steam and lauched forcing PE with no luck either.
Someone in some forum said something about installing a package with winetricks and now when I launch it thinks I’m using windows 7.
It screwed my install and I’m too lazy to reinstall. I’m thinking about refunding.
Refund and chalk it up to a lesson learned about trying to support developers that don’t even attempt to support you.
My grandpa always told me to ‘vote with your wallet’.
I installed with heroic Add non steam game Highlight bg3.exe or maybe dx version can’t remember now from bin directory “not launcher” Run with proton 8.0.3 I think Crashed first time but fine since
Tried this, still no go. I get this error:
[340:352:20230804,083255.364:ERROR crashpad_client_win.cc:521] CreateProcess: File not found. (2) [340:492:20230804,083259.209:ERROR crashpad_client_win.cc:132] crash server failed to launch, self-terminating
I this it has something to do with dotnet missing
I also I noticed I have
–skip-launcher
In the box for launch options in steam.
I don’t have dotnet 6 installed either and running straight from Heroic fails every time. When added thru the steam client it works.
GOG is still a thing? 🤦🏼♂️
Better GOG than EGS, IMO. Hashtag acronyms.
