Well … the box is just a remenant of the search web pages.
I think it does make sense to have a separate search box for web-only searches tough. Say you’re sitting next to a coworker and you’re talking about Anna Karenina and you want to look something up, but typing “an…” in the address bar will pull up “Anastasia likes it big and hard” from your bookmarks because you forgot to disable bookmark search
And even worse, using personal pronouns exclusively in subject form, e.g. “till han” (“to he”) instead of in object form where suitable, e.g. “till honom” (“to him”).
Question still stands: who tf greenlit this? No chance they don’t know the other connotations
Learning some functional programming. It really influenced the way I think about code and make coding decisions.
In Thunar it’s just right-click and “Open as root”
I really like Thunar
Oh I was just joking :)
How are you going to speak to it without revealing any information though? It now knows you need legal advice.

In Emacs, you are the IDE
That’s really nice to hear, I’m glad you liked it!
Yeah, I do agree. It just bothers me that they’re trying to pass off emulating a Linux installation (under Windows hypervision) as “installing” and refer to a true install as “bare metal”, as if your Windows installation isn’t. But it does give new users a chance to try it out.
Ugh, I hate this. At a time when many are searching the internet for guides, they’re injecting the search results with “It’s better if you keep Windows. But if you really, really want to, you can go through the COMPLICATED process of installing Linux BARE METAL 😱”
I switched to Linux when the “We’ve scheduled your free update to Windows 10!”-like popup started appearing again and again on my Win7 machine even though I disabled it. I didn’t like not having a choice and they only got worse from there. Meanwhile, you have full control over every part of a Linux system. You can even uninstall the update manager if you feel like it.
More like “My computer came with malware and I’m starting to realise that’s what it is” in most cases.
“Did you get the reference? Do you need a pointer?”
Well it’s really noob friendly. The introductory courses in programming all tell you to use it and it takes some time and experience to find alternative editors that 1. you like better, and 2. won’t confuse you more than the course itself does.
I used to use VSCodium and the Vim extension. Then I downloaded Neovim and started configuring it, but I was never really satisfied with the config. Then I found Doom Emacs. It was pretty much the thing I tried turning Neovim into.
But I wouldn’t recommend Doom Emacs to a first-year student that is still learning the fundamentals.
