QuentinCallaghan@sopuli.xyzto Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Dozens attend 'Hetero Awesome Fest' in IdahoEnglish26·22 days agoThis reminds me of a straight pride event titled “Hetero Pride” that was organized in Finland way back in 2013. One of the organizers was a deputy regional councillor and Finns Party member. He claimed how society and the media over-emphasized homosexuality, calling it “homozation”. He also claimed how it was hard to defend the traditional family model without being labelled homophobic and racist.
The event was held near the Parliament House in Helsinki. There were whole a lot more counter-protesters and some came to the event mainly because it was more like “popcorn pride”. One of the speakers at the event literally said in his speech how “we don’t have anything against homosexuals, but…” and another said something about how “the Bible states that marriage is only between a man and a woman”. One speaker was later asked about “what privileges do gays have these days”, and he just replied “I have to be honest, I can’t say anything about that”.
“The tiger can’t change its stripes.” The organizer mentioned later posed in a picture with five other men who made a Nazi salute – one of them was Seppo Lehto, an infamous Neo-Nazi. He also made a Nazi salute himself in another picture, this time wearing a Hitler mask. When called out, he said “I’m not in that picture. I wasn’t there. I don’t know where these kinds of clips came from.” He later admitted being in the picture, claiming how he hadn’t made a Nazi salute: “It’s just a normal salute with the left hand. The official Nazi salute is with the right hand at a 45 degree angle.”
The explanation wasn’t enough for the Finns Party, and as a consequence he was fired from the party’s regional council because of homophobia. Later he also resigned from the party.

EDIT: And to elaborate, the movie showed a conclusion to a longer narrative thread of Andy growing up and his toys needing a new home. There was a satisfying ending.

The similar notion has somewhat entered in mainstream discourse with the concept of “immunity debt”.

QuentinCallaghan@sopuli.xyzto Linux@lemmy.ml•I installed Linux (so should you) video by PewDiePieEnglish152·3 months agoHe was inconsiderate when he made edgy jokes, tried to test if those two Fiver guys really would put up a sign saying “gas the Jews” and once said the N-word in a livestream – controversy ensued for obvious reasons and he since apologized for his actions. I haven’t been really following him in the last few years but after those controversies he left any Nazi jokes out, I think he learned his lessons. He has since settled down with a family and it has been pleasant following his life, especially now that he has gotten into Linux.
But don’t tell anything like that to the average Internet leftist! Even if PewDiePie apologized and left edgy jokes out, changed and moved on, in their eyes he is eternally a Nazi or Nazi-enabler who can never redeem himself! No matter how many years have passed, no matter how many apologies, any time PewDiePie gets mentioned in a post or is the main topic, this happens.

In the 2000s and 2010s Brand was seen as a progressive who rallied against the 1 % with some hippie spirituality thing sprinkled in. He started his own YouTube channel. Then around 2020 he was slowly incorporating things like The Great Reset, rallying against vaccine mandates and other right-wing talking points. He started to appear with Jordan Peterson, Ben Shapiro and the like. The rebranding reached a culmination in April 2024, when he was baptised.
No more dog-whistling and euphenisms, looks like Gutfeld goes totally honest about his intentions.
