eric@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Apple and Google avoid naming ChatGPT as their 'app of the year,' picking AllTrails and Imprint insteadEnglish10·2 years agoBy “physical button,” are you referring to the action button? Could you share how you managed to accomplish this?
I am unfamiliar with Matrix and just read their website, but I’m still kind of confused as to the importance of a new release sub-version to this general technology community. This may be a stupid question, but does matrix provide infrastructure for the fediverse or something?
Edit: thanks for all the informative replies. I understand perfectly now, but I’m still confused as to why this was posted here. I’ve never seen software release notes posted before, so i don’t get why this is important enough to be here with such a high upvote percentage. Anyone have any insights on that to help my stupid brain make sense of this?

And the fact that the CCP are so bothered by it would make any reasonable person conclude that there must be some truth to the rumor.

eric@lemmy.worldto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•If Wolverine had been American instead of Canadian, he might refer to the alloy on his bones as Adamantum.101·2 years agoNo, it’s clear you are simply applying the number in an attempt to discredit their logic, but the current number of countries has nothing to do with the fact that the British started spelling and pronouncing it differently, not the Americans.
And it wouldn’t be a big deal if you were capable of acknowledging that languages evolve regionally and that the evolutions are valid. But you can’t do that because it would ruin your ability to shame other English-speaking countries for their own regional linguistic evolutions whenever they diverge from the UK.

eric@lemmy.worldto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•If Wolverine had been American instead of Canadian, he might refer to the alloy on his bones as Adamantum.19·2 years agoTheir explanation does nothing to justify the number of countries that use that pronunciation. It merely denotes the etymological history.

I didn’t mean to imply chromium is a good thing, which is why I said it is maintained by Google. Lots of browsers are forks of Chromium, even Microsoft Edge, but I thought they were implying these browsers were illegal forks hacked from Chrome, so I looked them up and found they’re just more chromium forks.

eric@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Say Goodbye to Those Absurd Side-Effects Readouts in Drug Commercials. The FDA finalized a rule that will require a drug’s side effects to be "presented in a clear, conspicuous, and neutral manner.”19·2 years agoI know a few doctors, and they all hate drug commercials (as well as webMD) because patients come in with their self-diagnosis trying to order drugs like it’s a friggin restaurant. One of them told me that even when she clearly informs them that’s not how this works, they regularly get pissed off as she continues to tell them no and doesn’t budge. She also said she knows other less stubborn or principled doctors that give into the pressure, which is exactly how big pharmaceutical companies like it.
I admire your optimism.
