In general, I agree. To win a lottery, you need two things: buying a ticket, and win a lottery. A ticket comes first tho.

3·1 month agoI listened to podcasts on Antennapod for years. It’s open source and free, but there are many other podcast platforms. Used Pocket Cast before too, very good, licensed under MPL 2.0. Those services don’t have Spotify exclusive, but have all others.
Edit: corrected mistake about Pocket Cast.

2·1 month agoI use Qobuz now, and they are great, with human-curated playlists and suggestions. So far, I love it.
People in Germany use personal shopping trolleys, bike carts and kindergarten carts (hand-carried with seats for children inside) a lot.

World News@lemmy.world•Russia opens exhibition on "Polish Russophobia" at Katyn massacre siteEnglish
8·2 months agoI don’t live in Russia anymore, but none of my acquaintances there care about this kind of exhibitions. At least my bubble knows it’s propaganda and corruption, and would avoid these kind of events. I’m sure many others would visit and feel so veeeeery offended at how terribly Russians are treated in the world…

Technology@lemmy.world•Students are speeding through their online degrees in weeks, alarming educatorsEnglish
1051·2 months agoI can only applaud people who do that in the US: the cost of education is outrageous.
Here in Germany people prolong their education by years, since it’s almost free, you can work part-time, and there’s no need to rush.
If the US system won’t be robbing young people of hundreds thousands dollars, they wouldn’t feel compelled to try and hack the system.

151·2 months agoI hate everything that’s being done. A large part of my family lives there, and just getting them on a call is now not an easy task.
(I mean, I hate Putin and his government for many other things too. Restricted Internet perhaps is the least of their crimes, but this least is getting longer and longer and longer…)

1·2 months agoThey are look-through by the government. Part of the family lives outside of Russia, and I don’t want to put anyone back in the country into any compromising situations because of any innocent comments someone could make, since all of us are not the fans of the current government, which right now could be a criminal offense.
So no, I absolutely won’t use Russian messengers.

Technology@beehaw.org•The blue light from your phone isn't ruining your sleep
1·2 months agoAh, I don’t ask for any diagnosis from random commenters - if my message left such impression, it was unintentional. My intention was to share my experience and voice out my confusion.
I’ll try to clarify because I feel condescending tone in yours and others’ comments.
Eye strain / muscle strain or something might still be responsible for the bad feeling the next day. Alternatively, light per se might still be the issue, since I’m one of the suckers with light sensitivity and migraines.
I usually read a book from my screen, and I never do it for too long, unless it’s a vacation. I found the article interesting because I blamed the blue light and use filters, but now most probably I would need to search for another solution - or another bedtime activity.

2·2 months agoThank you for the detailed answer and overview of the different options! To clarify about Signal: in order to confirm a new account, Signal sends an SMS with a code to the registered number. In Russia, you cannot receive those messages since maybe 2 years ago. So all existing users are fine, but the new users can’t register an account.
Edit: typos

We checked of empirically already: nothing happens.
