when it was painful to use a computer (loud fans) and when internet was slow, i was a lot more productive.
is there device that is free from bad media?
- i need to be able to efficiently research stuff on google and some websites like reddit or fb (fb groups). i can’t do this on iphone or ipad. UX is just too fucking slow.
- i sometimes need to watch youtube videos. these can be black and white only.
- i need to use calendar efficiently. again, UX is too slow on iOS or iPad
i want this device to be something such that it cannot give me pleasure or dopamine
something like a mix of kindle and macbook
You could just use a computer without internet. Get something without a network card. But your use-case is quite bad as you still need access to the internet and you even want Facebook, Reddit & YouTube, which totally will send you into your doomscrolling dead spiral again.
So some hints:
- you can download YouTube videos and view them offline
- there are lots of ways to disable the internet or slow it down. Nothing will work when you’re the admin as you can and will disable them.
- if you get distracted doing your work, even black & white displays will not work. People totally didn’t do their work in the past and watched a lot of black&white television or even read some books
i think its the screen. its like glue
i sometimes need to watch youtube videos. these can be black and white only.
I think you want a normal laptop with a software that makes the screen black and white.
Just use color filters on your phone in accessability or the zoom feature
There are computers made bespoke for Amish people. It’s basically just a desktop loaded with a word processor and a spreadsheet program. You could easily cook up something like this with a Linux distro and an older laptop. Maybe even a Chromebook.
I think your kinda shooting yourself in the foot by fucking with Reddit, YouTube, and Facebook. Those things run on dopamine.

You’re trying to solve a medical issue with technology.
That should be done under the supervision of a medical professional such as a psychologist.
