I went back in time and farted on a puppy. Sorry. You really should have seen the original timeline. We had blimps, universal healthcare, and six seasons of Firefly

          Why not both?

Anyway, I was thinking less ‘european aristocrat’ and more ‘steampunk aesthetics’ when I talked about vests. Dress shirt, tie, vest, and overcoat, all slightly stained with oil from physically impossible doohickeys full of gears. T’is a nice aesthetic.

The short answer is our legal system was not designed to withstand the stress the ultra rich can put on it as a result a lot of laws were over turned.

Im on mobile so it’s hard to type and explain in more depth.

    And that’s only one facet.

But there are good things in the world too. And there are people fighting for what’s right. It’s easy to slip into despair but as mr rogers use to say

When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping

It’s not. You live in what is probably by most metrics the best time in human history.

If you read unceasingly-negative material, you could develop a negative worldview.

If you live in one of the rich countries. Otherwise it’s shit and you’re lucky to get a job picking the fruit that feeds those rich countries which pay almost nothing (still better then opportunities back home). Basically they’re picking up the scraps left behind by us, who live in those rich countries and think things like “this is the best time to be alive in human history”, completely ignoring all the human suffering that supports our lifestyles.

Nah, I mean globally. Take your hypothetical fruit-growing country. Are things in 2025 in that country bad compared to 1925? 1825? 1725? 1625? If not now, when is the better time?

People are often rewarded with power or money for doing/saying shitty things.
If you are rewarded for something, you are likely to continue the pattern.

            oh, no, sorry, haha.

I’ve been living abroad for a very long time.

If you are a native English speaker, you can be saving a couple grand per month in a few weeks if you don’t have a passport yet or start tomorrow if you do have a passport.

there are thousands of ESL jobs that will pay you an absolute minimum of $2,000 us a month working 25 hours a week in countries where the cost of living is less than $500 a month, but the quality of life is the same or better than the states.

you can get out of all the politics shit, go live a real life, and make a bunch of money doing it while doing good in the world helping students realize their potential and provide them with greater opportunities, and being an unofficial cultural ambassador, as far as you want to bridge the cultural gap between countries.

If you have any questions, I love talking about this stuff.

It was always shit. Now we just have technology that lets us see all of it.

There was always a genocide going on somewhere in the world. Cops always brutalized and killed people. The wealthy always exploited the poor. New diseases are always popping up and spreading. Politicians were always corrupt.

The internet tells us about all of it. We no longer have the bliss of ignorance.

It isn’t. Yes there’s lots of bad stuff, but there’s also lots of good stuff too
