I only use mobile. Never tried Lemmy on a PC.
I just moved to the Thunder app from Sync myself. Honestly, I still think the Sync UI is better, but I also know it’s pretty out of date. I know the dev often takes extended breaks, but I am tired of the complete lack of any communication. At this point, I have no reason to think that they are going to come back and push a newupdate for Sync. If they do, I will switch back, at least for a while.
I love Thunder. Have it set up with the small UI, feels like I never left Relay.
You’re missing out on Eternity my friend
I’ve used Sync the most, switched to Thunder this year, tried Summit for a while and eventually settled with Thunder. For me, it has enough customisation options and it just works. It’s also fully open source. Sync and Summit are both great too.
I too am on sync, but thunder is pretty much better in every way. The only reason I haven’t switched to thunder is they can’t handle DMs yet. I know it sounds silly but ya boi doesn’t mind a “private” conversation from time to time.
As soon as they can properly handle DMs I’ll probably drop sync for good.
How do the other apps compare to Boost. I was too lazy to try anything else and just switched from Boost for Reddit to Boost for Lemmy when they killed the API.
I just switched from Sync to Boost because of the lack if updates. The interface is slightly different, but you get used to that after a day. The only thing I really miss is opening image previews by long-pressing.
I never really tried using Sync as I don’t use proprietary clients. Summit recently got open source, it is pretty good and the dev is pretty fast at developing the app. Currently my main.
What I learned.
Sync is perfectly fine, but it might be out of date soon and doesn’t get updated frequently. If it breaks, I should switch to another app. Boost, Thunder, and Voyager seem to be the most recommended
I use the default web one on PC and Jerboa on my phone
Try Summit for Lemmy, thank me later.
I was a boost reddit guy and when they took them down Iand I came here i don’t even remember what I used before boost released the lemmy app. I think it’s perfect.
I’m a reformed Sync user. Nothing. I guess you can cross post from other clients. But that’s not really a loss.
I use Voyager. Lockout specs for me when selecting an app were ability to apply a custom tag to users, and firmly holding my default view/sort settings.
I started on Boost for Lemmy after using Boost for Reddit. But I was having some issues with it and it’s not actively updated anymore. Not sure if the creator is done with the project or just busy with something else, but I just checked and it still shows the last app update was in July 2024.

Boost dev here, I’ve been busy but already working on a new version
Thank you for your work !
It is good to see you back!
I was a bit sad when I saw you released the new Boost version just a few days before the Reddit APIcalypse just because why not, I am glad you can keep your beloved project now with Lemmy!
Reddit getting rid of top notch quality apps such as Boost was definitely quite a dumb move.
Sweet. Thanks for your efforts, RM. Your For Reddit app was my favorite by miles and I appreciate you continuing to offer it on the Lemmy side.
Folks, this is an app worthy of the few bucks to unlock features and support the developer.
Sync is outdated and will be broken in a future Lemmy update, some features already don’t work (such as hiding read posts, they’re meant to stay hidden but they don’t in Sync). I’d suggest trying out Boost for Lemmy, Summit, Thunder, Jerboa, Eternity - roughly in that order.
I’m a current sync user. I have tried both Voyager and jerboa. I don’t like either one. Neither are as smooth and gestures don’t work as well on either one. I’m clinging onto sync until the features I use break.
I moved to summit. Similar smooth gesture interface as sync, very configurable, active development and responses from the dev, and it was just open sourced. Highly recommended.
I’ve been using summit since my earlier comment. I have to say this is the closest to my experience with sync yet.
I like it. Just need to work out some of the settings, but it appears this will do for me.
I’ll check it out today!
