Lemmy is actually getting better. It’s like Reddit when it was just starting.
Hey now, we also have programming and meta-fediverse discussions as well /s
A balance between communities. There are communities that are very active and fill my feed. Although those community are OK, I am much more interested in some smaller and niche communities. Those get lost in the feed.
- use alts for different interests (e.g. one account for niche communities, one for memes, one for news)
- consider https://piefed.social/ as they have personal and public feeds (multireddits)
The subreddits for individual sports teams, posting comments in game threads with a hundred other fans of your team from around the world.
Subs/communities for actively watched shows. I find myself needing to browser redlib for insights on, most recently, the white lotus and the last of us
I still go back to reddit for r/severanceappletvplus.
[email protected] is nice, but not the same.
Working mobile apps. My Jerboa mobile app for Lemmy works great, but if they hadn’t have broken all the mobile apps and acted like such shitheads, I wouldn’t even be here :)
Rip rif
My beloved. I kept it on my phone for a few weeks after it was shut out, it still had access to some content and I thought all this would blow over :(
I kept it until getting a new phone lol. I remember actively using it when it suddenly stopped working, like a month after it was supposed to stop working

@CocaineShrimp Ok, I will remind you on Tuesday May 6, 2025 at 5:15 AM UTC.
wooza ! didnt know lemmy had this function.
The number of users, you can get answers to anything there.
Video game specific communities. Like any random game that is even semi-popular has an active sub on Reddit. Even the most popular games in the entire world rn don’t have much activity, if they even have communities, on Lemmy.
Lemmy.world already has a sub for the best game ever.
Hell, I still lurk truestl because there’s no equal here.
I would rather argue the motivations of a souls boss
Miquella did nothing wrong.
Honestly, the only thing I don’t condone him doing is literally giving up his love. How can he be a benevolent god without that?
I feel like there’s probably about 50 different directions that one could take that idea, and the story very clearly paints that act as a Bad Thing™ to have done.
But to play devil’s advocate (just because I have also been missing this type of discussion), one could argue that experiencing love would compromise Miquella’s plans for his planned age of compassion. An age of compassion would be one which treats everyone equally, to try to universally end worldly suffering.
Love, on the other hand, is what allows one to play favorites, and is also something that cannot really be controlled. Having a stronger attachment towards some people over others because of love would result in discontent, and sabotage the type of egalitarian compassion Miquella wanted to create.
Marika’s reign became rocky because there were conflicts between those she favored and those she shunned. She absolutely played favorites, and did not love everyone equally. Her solution to break the cycle of suffering was to simply remove death from the world entirely, but as we saw, that just ended up making its own whole host of problems.
So I think Miquella was trying to avoid making that same mistake of favoritism we saw under Marika, but ended up making another mistake which could have been just as potentially consequential as his mother’s decision to shatter the rune of death. A dispassionate “compassion” wouldn’t really be compassion at all.
r/libraryofbabel, r/tragedeigh, and r/everyoneknowsthat. But I can live without them.
Tragedeigh gets depressing sometimes as someone who had a horrible name growing up. Libraryofbabel kinda encourages my maladaptive daydreaming and honestly creating [email protected] wasn’t the best for trying to break out of my daydreaming addiction.
However I can get my Who’s Who updates somewhere else. Everyone knows
thatit, you’ve got ulterior motives!I don’t miss anything from reddit, I can still go there if I want. If anything, lemmy still feels underpopulated if I only browse the stuff I’m subscribed to.
The hyperspecific interests mainly. The wealth of obscure info too.
Diversity. People on R were less uniform.
Maybe because they were more.
When there was only one allowed opinion in a sub, then you could often find another sub with the same topics allowed, but the only one allowed opinion was another one.
now it bans you for any opinion as of recently, but more heaivly geared if your criticizing musk, or the right, because musk had complained to spez on 2 occasions to start a purge of accounts.
Reddit started out very similar to the current lemmy/fediverse audience. The nerds go first and eventually everyone else follows.
The “When does the narwhal bacon” crowd was not diverse at all
Most subs i follow have a discord anyway, so mostly on discord. For the subs not on discord, I use alternative measures viz; a. ChubbyFire - I still check the space out
b. r4r- I Resort to other pay for play NSFW apps.
r/simpleliving or, more exactly, a more active version of it since the community is there: [email protected]. And more people participating in the [email protected] community too but hopefully we’re slowly getting there.
I always feel like people living simply minimize their time online, so this kind of communities tend to be a bit quiet
Many do limit online time but there is also 8 billions of us on this planet. So, no matter how strictly we limit our involvement, I think the community itself, not each individual member, should be a little more active at any given time. But like with many communities on Lemmy we lack more participants ;)
The app - Baconreader was so smooth. I’m getting used to the fediverse one, but there are still a lot of decisions by the devs that I hate.
The sheer amount of queer porn - it wasn’t even enough because my tastes are… Varying. But the feed of porn on fediverse is weak as fuck, with a lot of it being really boring and aimed at boring people who are not me (cishet men). I’m confident this will eventually get remedied, but it DID also take like a decade for even Reddit to get good porn, with its own ups and downs.
That being said, there’s still so much more to love on fediverse that I don’t need to look back to Reddit for. It feels like going from high school to a really big, really liberal college (Reddit->fediverse). I can openly do so much stuff, like say fuck nazis, which I regularly do, and very much mean. I can even say stuff like “the only good nazi…” and people will know what I’m talking about AND agree with, thank fuck. It’s just a much more grown up place here, and I’m much more comfortable being closer to being able to speak my mind without having to censor myself, and I’ve noticed this in other people, too, that there’s far less conformity to respectability politics, and people actually say what they think, regardless of how bizarre or unhinged it is, I truly love that.
Yup, the porn is lacking. I think part of the problem is all gay porn gets downvoted on World even if it’s posted on LemmyNSFW, and the one posted on World is simply not welcome. I tried but it didn’t catch on so I let it be. :/

Have you used Voyager, Thunder, Summit?
In like 2023 and a little last year, I tried out literally a dozen of them. Most of them were in earlier stages of development and were VERY space wasteful whilst also showing very little data AND having no customizations to fix that stuff. I’m currently using Sync, and as long as I customize the shit out of it, it’s bearable.
I tried: jerboa, kbin, connect, voyager, lemmotif, thunder, liftoff, summit, sync, a different voyager, tundra, and artemis.
I eventually got burnt out on trying and trying to customize each app, and settled on sync I guess.
Sync hasn’t been updated for a long time, and will stop working with Lemmy 1.0, I would recommend to have a look at the 3 above when you have some time.
