I am curious why so many of you folks are so hostile by default. We’re trying to build a decentralized community not a openly hostile community.
Use the block and report buttons. People can be rude. People act like lemmy is somehow better but it’s just redditors who like tech.
Also, fuck you!
It depends on community. Some of the shitposting communities can be great (shout out to ncd).
But politics and current events can be a minefield if your views are outside of Lemmy’s tinsy tiny Overton window.
My theory is that we’re mostly here because we have very strong beliefs. We dropped out of Reddit because of their policies or we were banned. Or we’re open source people. We defend those beliefs vociferously. Long beyond what most other people would do.
Whatever. I still mostly enjoy it here. I hope you find a place here too.
Yep. People here make Reddit users look like angels. I’ve also noticed how absolutely toxic people here are. Now I will be downvoted and told to leave if I don’t like it.
Just now seen some one posted thread asking about where to order glasses online , they didn’t list their country . Onef repliers then presumed OP must be from the US and how 'muricans all stupid that the world revolves around them .* . Just. Because. They. Didn’t. List. Their. Country
Idk, we could all stand to be little nicer to each other !
I’ve just reviewed your mod log and I’m pretty sure the problem is you.
I enjoy arguments and I’m comfortable with confrontation so I haven’t really felt it be annoyingly/hurtfully hostile. Perhaps I’ve just been lucky and I’ve avoided all the difficult folks, lol. Hopefully it gets better for you! 🙏
Internet itself is really hostile, among the parts of the internet that I’ve been to, this one is so far the most civilized of them.
Because someone pissed in my cheerios and I’m blaming YOU!! 😡😡😡
Welcome to Lemmy!
I can’t say that I run into much hostility here. Disagreements, sure, but not much hostility.
Going off what remains of your account’s post history though, you kinda come off as a troll. Or a bot. Either would draw the ire of community and instance mods.Well, I’ve responded angrily to people that have attacked me, but I’m no troll, nor a bot.
Do yourself a service and block/hide communities you dont want to see or be a part of.
There are soooo many anime cmts here as well as hbtq cmts here (I accept it, but I am not very interested in it as a subject further than it being a right for all human beings) that Ive chosen to hide myself for example.
That really hasn’t been my experience, but then I just block people that make my experience here worse, so maybe just try that.
I can just only assume that since the majority of people came to here solely due to Reddit’s API changes 2 years ago, they are more inclined to critique, and a non-insignificant amount of them are just hateful or quick to judge.
I’m an ex redditor as well, but I don’t really have any idea of what the average reddit comment section, cause I have only watched the top comments.
We can maybe even consider the chance that online or chronically online people did become more hateful over these years.
Good question tbh
May I ask, what kinda hate comments do you get?
Do you think that a lot of people come to Lemmy because they got banned from Reddit? I often wonder about this.
Well, I did in a basic sense. But mostly I just oppose Reddit’s extremely nonsensical censorship these days. But I was banned for sharing opinions and debating people… not for breaking rules or being hostile toward users.
Bullshit. Your comments were deleted because you were being a dick. Check the modlog, it’s all in there.
I responded to other being a dick :P
Yeah, I was talking about the people who are hostile and abusive. I’m wondering if the people who are so disagreeable on Lemmy came straight from Reddit.
