When an opposing force uses human shields, you aren’t supposed to attack the fucking human shields. You’re supposed to show you value human life and try another way. If you kill the human shields, it’s a war crime.

Especially since everything in Gaza seems to be a “human shield.” You don’t get to just bomb tunnels through a hospital without people calling you a war criminal.

Moral dilemmas aside. Killing human shields or collateral is actually not a war crime. Using human shields is. People are throwing around that term without thinking.

I meant the term war crime that you keep referring to everything as. Those civilians are being used as human shields by Hamas. There is no question there.

I’m not referring to everything as a war crime. Here’s a list of war crimes as defined by the UN: https://www.un.org/en/genocideprevention/war-crimes.shtml

Hamas committed war crimes by killing civilians, taking hostages, and using human shields. I’ve seen rumors they used sexual violence as a weapon too.

Israel’s use of collective punishment, destroying civilian infrastructure, and cutting off food and water are also war crimes. Israel is probably violating the proportionality standard. (It definitely has in the past.)
