Tipping isn’t going away because people who make tips, make a fortune, and they will fight tooth and nail to keep it that way. And that article is from before the lockdowns, when average tips were 10-15%, not the 25%+ now.
Also, so many businesses love the tip jar because they use it as a wage for employees. Lots of restaurants will advertise that they are offering 25% more than minimum wage, but when you get there it’s “we pay minimum wage, but with tips included, it averages out to $X per hour” to match their advertised wage.
