I Installed a Graphene-Based OS on Non-Pixel Phones… Here’s the Catch

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RjGjqBAAgQ

"I was watching youtube(Invidious) and notied RestlessOS . Have you heard of this and are there people actually tried this on non-pixel phone?

“RestlessOS is an unofficial, unaffiliated fork of GrapheneOS packaged as a Generic System Image (GSI) for Project Treble devices. It is not endorsed by, sponsored by, or in any way connected to the GrapheneOS project or its developers.”

I’m very hesitant to give money to Google pixel so I’m going to experiment on this one."

What’s to stop one from buying a used Pixel? No money goes to Google.

Pumping up the used market does propagate to new device prices. “This seems expensive but has good resale value.”

I don’t see how. More often than not, people selling a phone already have a new phone. You’re not prompting them to pay Google again when you buy from them. I’m sure there are a few who buy just to resell, but then it’s a matter of looking into the seller or going for an older model that doesn’t have the best resale value.

Maybe if you couldn’t sell your pixel you might want to not buy one again. At least those who have to get a new phone every year.

Still better than buying one yourself.

Could be, but I’d still rather put my money on a company who I’d like to support instead of using a Google device and not really supporting any hardware alternative.

Now, that is a fair point of view. I don’t really agree with it, because I will pay Google to degoogle and being secure by moving to GrapheneOS, but I can totally see your point there, and respect that. At the end of the day, we all have to decide what trade-offs we’re willing to live with.
