The NDP is polling so low that they won’t be able to split the vote to any significant amount, and now the the Liberals are ditching Trudeau they have a decent chance of staying in power and keeping the Conservatives out. That’s a complete failure of the NDP’s goals. The only thing worse would be if they had a leader who was popular enough to actually form a government, since that would force the NDP to actually act on their rhetoric.
The NDP’s purpose is to use left-wing rhetoric to promote right-wing interests, and to do that they need to stay in the middle range of popularity; enough to damage the Liberals but not enough to actually win an election. Someone who can’t do that is a failure as a leader.
