  • Might be a SAS driver issue. Have you checked if the drives show up on a live distro, something more current, like let’s say Void or anything that has a 6.x kernel?

I’ve had issues like this with older Marvel SCSI controllers, some of them don’t have open source drivers for Linux, and the ones provided by the manufacturer (if there are any) are so old that you’d have to be runnig kernel 2.x in order for them to work. I just gave up in the end, disabled the SCSI controller in BIOS and just used the rigs on IDE/SATA.

  • I think there is just way too little data on the subject.

Like, for example, I used to organize some local PsyTrance gigs with DJs mostly (also artists, but the DJ sets were cheaper 🤷) and I know for a fact that at least 1 of the people that DJed on the gigs has a PhD in genetics. The other one, I’m not sure (he said he did have a PhD, but he was just way too plastered at the time to take him seriously).

I think most of them are genuinly afraid to actually say they’re highly educated in this or that field, because of how society might look at them if they do - you’re a decadent human being, you don’t deserve your PhD. Not to mention that for some of these people, this is like an alter ego for them. Some of them have normal 9 to 5 jobs, just like to do drugs and music on the weekends… I don’t have anything against this, of course, but society views these things differently 🤷.

  • Yeah, I’ve also been looking into changing trades (work in IT as well). I’m not an introvert by any means, but I think I made some “lonely” career choices… like, it’s you and the rigs and that’s it. Sure, might’ve been fun when I was younger, but now, I just miss humans, just talking or having a cup of coffee. I have a family and all that, but that’s just home talk most of the time, obligations, chores, etc. I just miss talking like a night out… maybe I just miss going out, but I don’t think it’s just that… like joking at the workplace with colleagues, something like that I guess.

  • Wow… I’ve never actually heard a setup like this even exists… three phase, sure, we have it here even in households (I go it), but 180 degrees out of phase to get double the voltage… yeah, definitely a first for me.

So, the idea is to use the 240V line or have separate 120V lines? Cuz if it’s the latter, just bring neutral over the ground (rewire in a junction box) and use the neutral as ground as well. Sure, not the best scenario, but it should get the job done if most of the stuff you plug in are power tools, which don’t have ground anyway.
