  • Neem oil is a great natural way to get rid of them.

Put about a tablespoon or so of Neem oil into a spray bottle with slightly warm water (maybe 8-10oz) and a couple drops of dish soap. Shake it up and soak them.

Only thing I’d caution against with this is spraying your produce or herbs, because the Neem does have a scent that could throw off the flavor of things. Looks like a lily of sorts here so you’d be fine

  • Don’t let the heat scare you away from Thailand.

Spend the first week with your mom up in Chiang Mai, go to “elephant nature park” up there, one of the few who actually are a real elephant sanctuary for rescued elephants and treat them well. You can feed, touch, and bathe them, it’s an awesome experience. There’s also great cooking classes to do that take you through the markets where you try different foods as you collect your ingredients to cook with later.

If your mom is open minded enough, go to the ladyboy cabaret, it’s good fun, I’ve literally seen families there before, it’s not x-rated stuff, just good song and dance with humor mixed in.

Night market every night, and Sunday walking street both offer tons of shopping and excellent street food options everywhere you go for literal miles. Don’t miss out on the best Khao soi of your life.

See the temples, Doi Suthep offers an unmatched view of the valley Chiang Mai lies in. Doi Inthanon is high enough of a climb in elevation that you get serious relief from the heat, and there are waterfalls to visit along the way, makes a great day trip.

Spend a couple days up in Pai to enjoy a peaceful hippie-ish town with beautiful views (about 3 hour drive by car). If you make the trip up here, you might as well go to the white temple in Chiang Rai - I can’t vouch for that one but it looks sweet!

Week two - fly yourself down to Phuket for the beach and nightlife. Go to a full moon party, do some shrooms or whatever floats your boat. Tons of bars and clubs in the area for you too. Also, if you’re up for something not as much of a party but still incredible while you’re there, look up John Gray sea canoe tours. They do the best day trips out in the bay, take you to a couple different hongs where you kayak under these caves into lagoons, see bats, monkeys, all kinds of cool shit… They cook you good food on the boat… You can do overnight trips where you camp on a tiny island you have to yourselves… Highly recommend them.

I spent a couple months in Thailand in college (over the summer months) so I’m always encouraging others to see it, even in the hotter months - don’t let weather discourage you. The people, the sights, and the food far outweigh any bad weather you might encounter. I liked it enough to bring my wife back for our honeymoon years later, we had an awesome time.

  • I was summoned last year. Didn’t get selected for the jury but did still spend two days listening to the selection process and info on the case.

It was a sad one, DUI. Mother was driving and went head on into another car, her own 4-5y.o. daughter died in the accident.

Her and her boyfriend looked like trouble, exactly what you’d picture when you think of a couple driving under the influence and getting their own daughter killed out of their negligence and stupidity… Sad that they were able to have kids in the first place, some people should be fucking sterilized. I heard a few months back that she got some bullshit slap on the wrist sentence - she was sure to get pregnant before sentencing, figuring that factored into a lighter sentence. I know she’s probably already suffered plenty knowing what she did, but I have a hard time feeling sympathy for someone who does something as gross as what she chose to do and feel she deserved a decade or more, not a year or two.

There’s people serving more time for possession of weed in this country than others who are responsible for the death of someone.

  • This sounds like a less interesting version of chopped.

Kids in general fucking suck at determining good food… I don’t know many people who’d want to watch who can make the best chicken nuggets or french fries.

Put judges on the panel who can at least determine a well balanced/cooked meal from a crappy one. Doesn’t have to be a professional chef, just someone with some level of experience with cooking… Home cooks, line cooks, etc. Not some 14 year old who thinks stouffers French bread pizza is a meal. That opinion is null and void in the world of cooking.

  • I like to think I got the benefit of said private school, while thankfully the religion didn’t stick past the age of forming critical thinking skills.

Further helped that I pursued a degree in science afterwards.

I did have a number of instances throughout my college career where I realized how many others, likely from public schools previously, struggled in classes that I saw as review from high school, so I’m also thankful for the quality of education it provided. It also gave me more perspective on christianity having read a decent chunk of the Bible over those k-12 years… More well rounded perspective is never a bad thing. Now I’m just better equipped to recognize the bullshit.
