I’m pretty sure a lot of research shows that limiting screen time for kids is a good thing.

I definitely know that not having access to screens all the time made me have stronger social skills in school than I would’ve had staring at cartoons every chance I got. Being on the computer from the moment I got home was sure as hell bad enough. Once I started skateboarding, my social life took off much faster. Being out, no screens, in a social context where people are just being offline people.

When I was in school, we talked. And when we didn’t talk, we just sat, bored, together. It was bonding in a way that the brain needs. You need to just sit in silence with someone and be bored together sometimes, man. Boredom feeds creativity. We were also walking around the halls, taking walks outside, going out and touching grass, getting some sun. This was even in high school.

Sure as fuck wouldn’t have done that if I could watch shows and doom scroll every break.

I’m glad they’re banning phones in schools here soon. Gonna be good for learning/concentration, and creativity. E-learning is awful for learning, and I can’t imagine leasure-time with phones and other devices help with concentration either, even if they “earned it”.

90 must be some compromise value then, I suppose. I wouldn’t go for that personally as I find 120 is the absolute minimum for some high-paced games. Preferably 240 fps and above. Sometimes I do play Shapez 2 at like 60 fps, because there’s almost no movement on-screen. If I’m working and I’m just idling, waiting for shapes to churn in, I’ll even set it to 30. 😅️

Quite a curious value, 90 fps. Don’t think I’ve seen a display other than the one on a Pixel 6 phone have a refresh rate of 90 Hz. Maybe they’re more common than I thought.

the diff is noise in the potentially big update log. the point of doing it manually is forcing you to take your time and verify stuff one by one.

I guess it depends on your discipline. If I’m already so inclined that I’d go to the lengths of forcing myself to check each package “manually”, I’m also going to be so disciplined to check each diff when paru pauses the upgrade process for me to do so. It’s the same thing for me.

also pkgbuild is just one place, seeing the hash changed means nothing if you don’t check what that archive contains, or seeing the install steps don’t change mean very little when the installer invokes other scripts anyway

Yup, and as I said, that’s where I draw the line with my trust and my threat level. I don’t have a lot of important data.

i understand that you aren’t going to vet the source itself, but at that point you are exposing yourself to this kind of malware without mitigation. the aur is unsafe by design (fast way to publish a package without any involvement from anyone else) and should be avoided whenever possible. im not an arch hater, i too run arch

Yup, I’m aware of the risks I’m taking. 🙂 That’s the important part to me. I really don’t have time to vet sources with two small kids and a full-time job, and hobbies and exercise every week. It’s impossible, and a sacrifice I’m willing and forced to make if I want some life balance. Quite a simple choice.
