  • Holy crap. Well that explains a lot with that memory. Dad used to read a ton of sci-fi. I was actually just commenting about Larry Niven and my dad in another post, The one that was asking why nobody has redone Dante’s inferno in the 20th century.

e: I think he either must have read me the story or paraphrased it to me when I was younger, I’m going to have to bring this up next time we’re having a meal together lol. I read the entire short story you posted (very short! I read it while eating a carrot for breakfast!), and so much of it brings back more memories :) what a fun concept it explores, thank you so much for sharing the link, this made my morning!

  • Fair enough, I’m still trying to figure out most of them myself. It’s just the first first distro I used that my son set up for me. It’s a gaming oriented Fedora with KDE and comes preloaded with stuff for playing games. It did seem like it was working pretty well for a lot of stuff, but I went against my son’s advice and started trying to learn the terminal and borked some stuff, so he switched me to vanilla Fedora and now I’m missing stuff I need to run some of the games. I don’t know if anybody else has used it much it that has had any experience. Like I said I’m only on my second distro myself.

Fleischer animation studios was amazing. I want to say they invented the rotoscope? If not maybe I’m tripping. Either way, their color classics collection was absolutely fucking phenomenal and has so many bangers. I think pretty much all of them are public domain now, aside from one one specific cartoon that Burger King now owns the rights to for some fucking reason (I think it was a commercial that they utilized it in, the toon was called ‘tears of an onion’) color classics if I recall correctly, were competition for Disney studios, merry melodies? I’m a little bit Rusty on all of it but I just know that my parents pirated a shit ton of them on VHS tapes in SLP mode or something like that. God I have such vivid memories of some of these. ‘Play it safe’ was a great one, ‘Small fry’ stands out as well as a classic in my mind. Oh, ‘cobweb motel’ was great also. I’m going to have to go on a nostalgic binge down the rabbit hole now.

If Max actually did say that that’s pretty messed up though.

Aside from Betty boop and things like color classics I think him and his brother Dave also did Popeye.
