I haven’t heard about it before today but I tried asking it what separates it from other LLMs and apparently the answer is just that it does a google search and shows you the source its summarizing, which if true is not very compelling, and if a hallucination or missing details then its at least not very compelling as a search replacement

he was wrong but you are way overcompensating. if windows suddenly became exorbetantly expensive, most people would just stop using computers altogether (its already easy for many people live with just a phone no PC). The remaining computer users (not counting businesses) would be enthusiasts, who are much more likely to enjoy the tinkering of Linux, or put up with it to avoid exorbetant costs. so without even gaining anymore users, Linux’s desktop market share would shoot up.

to be clear I don’t think Linux Desktop taking over is imminant or “near future.” thats nuts, it will probably always be a niche for enthusiasts and thier families/friends. but its also not going to stay eternally at 2-4%, the user experience is constantly improving and encompassing more hardware.

Nobara bc my first year of using Linux had some rough patches, and I just wanna turn my brain off and game for a while with minimal troubleshooting.

I was really excited about peppermint so I switched my old laptop from Kubuntu. but peppermint feels more sluggish than KDE and now I’m not sure what I did wrong :(

yeah I mentioned I used flatseal lol. Ive tried giving it specific narrow permissions and I’ve tried just enabling everything and giving it full perms but nothing works great the way other versions of syncthing and steam just work

what is vaulting? I used to play casually before I moved to Linux never even finished main story

most flatpaks are awesome, it’s my preferred way to get apps. except for steam and syncthing. for some reason no amount of fuckery in flatseal can get flatpak-steam to correctly recognize my game drive or flatpak-syncthing to actually sync files from certain locations. for everything else tho flatpaks rock

I just want it to become more popular and easy to use while remaining free (like to buy, hot take I know) and libre.

I want it to be something I can endorse to all my friends, even the friends that almost never use computers and barely know what a filesystem is

my hope is that after this point of it being popular and accessable, FOSS principles will start to gain more traction in spaces like mobile phones and car head units. there will always be proprietary OS’s and software, but in my ideal world FOSS is at least an equal competitor, not just a a niche thing that only super involved computer people get into

I think other figureheads will rise up and take charge, I don’t think Linux is going to just blow away like a pile of leaves in the wind when stallman and torvolds are gone.
