I understand what you’re saying here, but the set of people killed by “every disease ever” includes the entire set of people killed by mosquito-borne diseases. Mosquitoes can’t have killed more people than every disease ever because mosquitoes’ kill count is part of every disease ever.
“I don’t have to change my behavior” is the most trivially easy thing for anyone to convince themself.
This is really at the core of what I was trying to say. If i asked for a drink with gi ger beer in it and received one with ginger ale in the place of the ginger bee, I’d consider that incorrect, regardless of either beverage’s history

With the volume of car travel in the world, it is a statistical certainty that people will make mistakes, be it distraction, complacency, fatigue, whatever the cause. An abundance of these high up, flat-fronted vehicles create a scenario such that WHEN those mistakes DO happen, they’re far more likely to end a life. To suggest that people should just be better drivers is essentially just wishing the problem will solve itself.
