We all know climate change is going to fuck us, we all know we are headed towards serious water shortages, etc - these guys also know and have money to position themselves - for what final gameplan I don’t know, but at least with Gates his recent history has shown a care for the greater good for humanity at least. Can’t say the same for other billionaires.

I know Bills history pretty well, I just see a difference between him now and how he was a ruthless businessman in his prior life. Maybe he has me fooled, but I don’t really see it other than people’s conspiracy theory stuff. Guys like Elon are another story though

Young ruthless Bill Gates was another person, older and wiser Bill Gates has already achieved richest person in the world, Forbes #1, etc etc - all that’s in the rearview mirror - I believe he has awakened and realized it takes a village and he wants his legacy to reflect that

Help me understand something - how exactly does US interests benefit from Israel? We have a relationship with the Saudi’s (honestly I don’t know what’s worse), we buy tons of oil (we make tons of oil too), and they all know we will absolutely resort to bullying and violence if need be, so what exactly is the benefit? Fighting off poor freedom fighter Arabs?

I’m trying to figure out if it isn’t all just part of the Christian death cult or if there actually is some sort of strategic benefit. We have plenty of bases all over the middle east (I don’t actually know anyone stationed in Israel or have ever heard such a thing, unless it’s some black site which i assume exists)

I’m aware 5G is new hardware and infrastructure, but my point is ISPs And service carriers are one and the same, and there are multiple business models that throttle speeds (ie premium 4G service vs deprioritized cheaper 4G service), fast lanes in 5G, whatever other QCI stuff the carriers are doing - all stuff they don’t want to change and my point was they will spend money fighting it in court vs willingly changing anything

When did windows have native rar support?

WinRAR had a great gui and it integrates much better (imho) into windows than 7zip, only thing 7zip has going for it is it’s free.

If we are talking command line, rar is free (inb4 Unix guys butt in)

ISP’s are also the same companies that market and sell fast lanes(i.e. 5G), and they have bigger bribing/lobbying pockets than everyone on Lemmy and reddit combined. They ain’t changing shit and will throw money at it to make sure their business models don’t change (hint - look at the supreme court).

Simple, the cops job is absolutely not to enable everyone to continue having a good time. Their job is to protect capital and the ruling class, usually with impunity. Unfortunately that sort of power corrupts, and this cop probably had somewhere to go and wanted to hurry things up (with impunity)

I would say China might actually be a better military power than Russia. No one would have believed just how fucking bad Russia’s military crumbled away. I doubt China has the same issues (but I don’t really know). Let’s say their weapons are copied (copies of what? State of the art weapons systems?) - I’d guess that means they can do some serious damage eitherway, and probably better than what Russia has. They have nukes too.

Honestly it sounds like the management there lacked the vision to truly appreciate the gift you gave them.

They will blame some scapegoat for not doing enough or they will blame some scapegoat for doing it on purpose, they will never look at themselves and see the issue is them - same playbook we just watched happen.

And I guess we will just sit back and watch it happen, again. What is there to do? Try to teach these people science? Explain to them nicely herd immunity? They will never ever listen because that’s just who they are, conspiracy dumb dumb conservatives who think they know better because they looked into it i.e. some grifter on TV told them so.

Now the obvious solution might be to have the grifters in right wing media actually tell the truth about the matter, but this entire episode was already made political and we will be stuck with the fallout for probably generations.

The big point you didn’t mention is that conservatives will consume whatever made up message is thrown at them, apply zero critical thinking and take whatever they accept as an authority as never lying to them. Their lying leader is more of a symptom of this scourge thats plauging all us regular, compassionate people in society

I ask because the republicans viewed her as a threat from the time she was first lady (she wanted universal healthcare - which she almost got, but the rightwing defeated her by talking about a republican vision/plan for an individual mandate, which was basically obamacare, she talked about women’s rights, she was pulling her husband to the left on some issues, etc). They knew she had the type of balls to run for president and the Hillary hate propaganda machine has been running strong for over 20+ years, because they were scared she would win. That’s why I’m wondering what got you to hate her - what tactic of their hate machine do you think worked on you?

I traveled through Europe this summer during the heatwave. The hostels were fucking saunas lol. As a traveler I was not staying at people’s houses where they might have a decent ac system

Old buildings are hard to retrofit a modern central air AC system into, and Europe has a lot of old buildings. Also, from an American viewpoint, Europe is much higher in latitude that the USA, so it’s like Canadian weather which is usually believed to be cooler. The USA is more of in line with middle eastern latitude

My problem is with people assuming she is wealthy and what does that even mean, it’s such a relative term. She just looks like a nobody to me who did something bad and will pay the consequences, like most other people. I just don’t understand why people are throwing her into the top 2% of this country based on this headline

No, that’s very specific and you can put an exact number on someone who is in the top 2%

I’m referring to statements in this thread, where we don’t know shit about this ladies finances, other than her dad has a “successful” business. People making assumptions about her wealth. What does being a “socialite” even mean? She likes going to art galleries and events? Spoiler alert - anyone can do that, don’t assume these are things that cost money (other than what it costs to catch a train/cab/Uber to get there, and possibly price of admission, which might not even be a lot either).

She’s going to prison for a few years, she clearly ain’t got the resources many people here assume she does.
