Illinois is 29th in violent crime and 21st in property crime by state. Crime rates are going down, both in Illinois and nationally. Source. White, rural people are terrified of what their tv tells them about minorities and cities, facts and statistics be damned. One or two anecdotes will always overshadow reality for these kinds of people.
You just gotta know where to look. Music is an industry, so the people who view songs as products will push their favored products in front of as many of their target demographic as possible. They want those tween-to-twenties locked down. They decide what’s cool, so if they like your products then you’re cool. So if you’re 40 and only listen to top 40 pop stations, you’re probably in for a bad time since none of that shit is really trying to court you in the first place. I’m in my mid-late 30s and I’m still discovering bands and current releases that I’m into. Just gotta look a little harder.
I think that as we get older and consume more media, we experience a sort of fatigue of simple and easy structures, so we desire something more complex. But we grandfather in the stuff that we imprinted on in those formative years, and that’s why that younger demographic is targeted; they’ll keep coming back to their comfort media for their whole life.
Pop music is (usually) the middle ground between nursery rhymes and something like djent or cool jazz or math rock or whatever other more nuanced genre you’re into. “Products” in those genres just aren’t gonna sell like boy bands do. Some pop music is actually good and complex, but it’s just not my thing and mostly never has been. I’m not trying to insult people who like Bad Bunny or Kendrick or whatever, but yeah Black Eyed Peas and Kid Rock fucking suck. Don’t @ me.
I’m interested to see how Wolverine is. And there’s supposed to be a 2D Castlevania game coming soon that’s looking good. I’m kinda interested in the Metal Gear collection, but I doubt I’ll pay full price for any of these. Everybody seems excited about 007 and GTA6 but idk how much I’ll care about those.
I usually discover games well after everybody has moved on from them. I don’t really bother keeping up with gaming news anymore. I just get stuff on sale and enjoy them later. A lot of bugs are usually fixed by then too. I’m just now starting Star Wars Outlaws and it’s fine. Only a couple of minor bugs so far, and it’s fun enough I guess.

Stay strong, bud. My best friend separated from his wife ten years ago, and he was in the dumps for a couple years, but now he seems happier than ever. He lost a lot, but built a new life for himself from a good foundation. He moved from a small town suburb to a major city a couple hours away and can enjoy things happening in his city. Lots of concerts, bars, farmer markets, etc. Maybe ask yourself if you’re interested in a big change like that.

I bought a used one and it gave me the confidence I needed to move over to Linux. I tried Pop os and wasn’t really feeling it, and now I’m on Mint and I’m mostly happy. I want to build a desktop and do cachy os instead of getting a PS6.

Due to economic, environmental, and cultural state and trends, my wife and I are choosing to not have children. Our dog is lovely. I will not spend my time and energy to give capitalists another generation of cheap labor just in time for this class to flee from rising sea levels, suffer malnutrition, and choke on contaminated air and water. I believe that it is inhumane to bring life into this world with the knowledge that they will endure the hardship and suffering that is so obviously coming.

Forcing people who don’t want kids to have two is insane. Who will make it happen? Is there a conception agency where agents just go a rape women in this imagined scenario?
Forcing a third pregnancy to terminate is also pretty insane. Suppose the mother doesn’t even know she’s pregnant until pretty far along. Suppose a mother hides her pregnancy and gives birth in secret; is that baby getting killed?
In either case, what is the punishment for violation? Suppose a woman is incapable of having kids when you mandated 2; is she to be executed for being unable to fulfill this societal requirement? Suppose a woman intentionally had more than her government-permitted 2 children; what is her sentence for providing extra mouths to feed?
It’s unethical, it’s not reasonably enforceable, and frankly, I’m not sure I understand what such a policy would even be attempting to accomplish.
As a former chef who had an astonishingly abusive boss (he literally violated basic labor laws and I didn’t know any better and felt pressured to impress to advance), Whiplash is maybe the most triggering movie I’ve ever seen.
