  • I’d put them oldest further from the hinge. My logic is that they’d be closer to me when I open the door that way (same logic applies whether you store them in the door or fridge). However, of you have a weirdly designed fridge like mine, it makes more sense to keep them on the right side of the body of the fridge because we have double French style doors and it can be sort of cumbersome to try and open the right door and grab the milk if it’s sitting toward the middle away from the hinge due to the left door not being open and my arm bumping it / it being partially in the way. The left side is ruled out completely because there are shelves that are too low and don’t allow enough headroom for the milk.

The problem is that even doing that isn’t simple. Both parties are captured by and cater to capital’s interests. The Democratic Party and the Republican Party both have 0 interest in changing away from first past the post because first past the post gets them elected and in power. It’s incredibly difficult to get anyone elected that is outside of either of those two parties because they will do everything in their power to challenge it. We’ve seen this most recently in the 2024 elections when the Dems were challenging Green Party candidates’ rights to even be on the ballot by taking them to court to contest their signatures and other procedural challenges. The Greens don’t have the pocket book to handle lawsuits, so this can effectively kill any local and bottom up candidate initiatives. It takes time to contend with these structures, which is why we’re just now seeing gains being made by Democratic Socialists like Mamdani in NYC. His election required years of organizing on the DSA’s part to build a party structure in NYC. Sometimes their best route to office has been through the Democratic party itself, like Mamdani, which comes with its own issues as well.

  • It’s also possible that they said “get out of here” just before the video started and then subsequently yelled “get out of the car”. I never heard anything but get out of the car in the video that’s making the rounds, but it’s definitely possible the witness heard it before the video starts. And if that’s the case, then they would’ve been giving conflicting orders, which I’ve seen happen in numerous encounters with police before.

  • What you’re thinking of is actually only applicable after a court judgment in China and it’s for judgment defaulters, i.e. people who have violated the law, received an order to pay a fine from the court (a judgment), and then proceeded to either evade the fine or hide their assets. It’s restricted to people who are within their means to pay the judgment and are still refusing or evading, and it’s limited to high consumption or consumption not essential to life/work. They can still travel, they just can’t buy plane tickets and nicer rail tickets or high speed rail. The government uses the restrictions to encourage people to pay their fines. The US and (I assume) western countries do similar things with judgments and bankruptcies all the time. In the US a court judgment is typically required to be paid off when you sell your home or before a lender will let you refinance your property, for example. Also a bankruptcy court can effectively restrict your right to purchase luxury items or travel or by scrutinizing your funds in court and requiring that you show up to certain court dates, just as examples. They can even refuse to let you sell your house and other assets and set stipulations for how debt must be repaid if they do let you sell it. The social credit score stuff is nonsense that’s long since been debunked or has Western equivalents that we don’t bat an eye at.

The company that currently owns Bandcamp laid off all of the union bargaining team members when they acquired Bandcamp, or rather, didn’t extend an offer of employment to all of them which is effectively a layoff or firing. Just adding on to your comment so people are more aware, in case they need extra convincing to only buy from Bandcamp on that day (or preferably not at all). Purchase directly from artists whenever possible. Pretty sure those workers who were fired are still seeking resolution, and I don’t think Songtradr, the company that acquired Bandcamp, ever recognized the union even though they voted yes in their vote to unionize with OPEIU months before the acquisition. Go here for more info.
