yeah I’m pretty sure the long game is only half AI. AI is the sales pitch. Taking over the internet and home computing is the long game.

Maybe. I just have mixed feelings about agreeing with the scientist from 12 monkeys.

Yep. Im often disappointed that covid wasnt more deadly because the only way to get change without full violent revolution would be catastrophic events that wipes out these institutions.
The black death actually had a similar effect in Europe. Its awful. I know. But nature doesn’t discriminate in the same ways that humans do.
What does it say about our world that the most realistic paths toward more equitable government is an asteroid, super volcano, or plague with 90% mortality rate?

The problem here is the same but without the algorithm. The most active groups are political and news related. The posts that rise are all going to be political and pushed upward by the communities.
Those communities themselves are made up already extreme elements in one way or another that either got kicked off other algorithm managed communities or left those communities themselves.
And that says nothing of the gamifying of the whole online culture. People chase upvotes, the last comment, and just ‘winning’ discussion instead of teaching and talking. I’m no better. I try to be, but the impulse is pavolvian and takes constant effort to fight.
Social media has become this terrible mix of the casino, the strip club, and the opium den.
It hits all the worst parts of our brain and makes us weaker as a people.
It sucks.

If they ever acknowledge it properly it will be after anyone that can be held accountable is dead.
More likely, it will be erased from history. The sad truth of many genocides is that they work and are forgotten.

Seeing how little we actually did, I often wonder if he regrets coming forward.

I’m not sure if it’s fully a bubble, or if the bubble is partly being used as a smoke screen to hide the upfront cost of redesigning computing infrastructure.
A lot of the time, I think AI is just the branding layer. The real goal is top-to-bottom SaaS.
Like, they’re letting these AI companies hold the bag for building datacenters which will then get scooped by various companies like microsoft and google to offer virtualized home computing through a client.

Injustice is Injustice and shifting the conversation from one injustice to another is just deflection.
Like a drunk pilot raving about substance abuse issues in the trucking industry at his trial.
The post is about Iran.
The line that sticks with me, always: “You’re not wrong, you’re just an asshole.”

We dont kill our woman for not wearing head gear. Nor our children when they stand up for our women’s right not to wear head gear.
Under any other circumstances you would be right. America is a shithole, I would agree with you.
That fact that you decided to make that point on a comment about a woman getting beaten for not wearing a headscarf, (in a place that jailed and killed thousands for similar, with their secret-god-police) tells me all I need to know about you as a person.
It wasnt that long ago that Mahsa Amini was killed. I will never forget or forgive the well documented violence that Iran perpetrated on its women and it’s young and hopeful.
It’s a shit hole.

Third parties that are getting one of maybe 6 emails and a unique password?
I’ll take my chances.

If i cant log in with an independent email then I’m not logging in.
I had the same problem yesterday as I was investigating tailscale. And while I get it for that service, there’s no reason for some of the other services that ask me to link my other accounts to them as a means of logging in.
No. I will not consolidate my log-in profiles under companies that dont see me as a person, care about my privacy, and are working with hostile governments to track me.
Semi-Anonymous or nothing. Period.

A nice little reminder that, even with everything else, Iran is still a shit hole.

Did it see its shadow?

What a fucking travesty.

Because at some point, they realized they weren’t actually going to be able to catch the person who did it.
If they didn’t arrest someone, they would have invited copycats.
They can’t let the public even consider that vigilante justice is possible. At all times, they must appear competent.
Based on what they were saying during the shooting investigation, they were truly stuck.
Whoever did it was Law Abiding Citizen-level meticulous. I don’t want to speculate too much, but one thing is clear:
There’s no chance in hell that, if they caught the real shooter, they would have found incriminating evidence on him, not unless he wanted them to for some reason.
They arrested someone to control the narrative.
There’s a truth we’re not allowed to acknowledge: violence has often been used throughout history as a response to disenfranchisement and injustice.
Many people in the modern world have been conditioned to believe that only the state can decide when violence is justified. In that sense, we’ve domesticated ourselves. Yet every individual remains capable of resistance, and powerful institutions are not infallible.
They are comfortable in their control, and the most dangerous thing this shooting did was remind people that we’re not powerless.
We just live in a state of learned helplessness.
Looks like the same ocean to me. Its just a different time of day.
I’d explain it like this, you know how everyday you open your phone and see Trump did something that really pisses you off?
That used to be Mitch McConnell.
Except Mitch was competent and tactical.
I’ll be celebrating his death.
