Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Italy’s top court rules against tourist refused tap water in Dolomites hotelEnglish
11·10 days agoYes but the reasom for that most of the time is that you can’t book tab water in the system, so it falls short of memory more often unfortunately. Moreso in a busy shift.
Haha! It would be unconventional to use a double s in any form aside from the s-perfect, which is the time form of a verb, the superlative forms of adjective, or beyond the first two syllables. After a bit of research an accurate word would be either a g, k, or a c (all formed in approx. the same area of the mouth as x) instead of the x followed by the -ēs. Trying to pronounce Kleenex with an i before the g, k or c sounds less like Kleenex than index sounds similar to indices. The transition from a vibrating sound like the n to an i also feels unnatural at that part of a word, normally it comes after a t or a d sound. Also the name itself stems from the verb “to clean” and the latin suffix -ex. If it suggests something like a “cleaning king” the resulting word could therefore be Kleenegēs, but Kleenecēs is not off the table.
However, my initial suggestion is inaccurate. The senex-style plural (Kleenēs) is a special case of which it ism’t resolved why senex drops its -x entirely on flexation.
It’s hard to tell because the deviating form in Latin is actually the nominative singular, which is why vocab lists include the genitive singular as well. All other forms have the same stem aside from Nom. Sg. A few examples are:
senex - senēs (elder)
rēx - rēgēs (king)
index - indīcēs (index)
So really anything could work as long as it ends on -ēs in plural and starts with kleen-.
Kleenex is Kneenes according to the rules of Latin, actually

I prefer it, but only specific ones with a barista label or ones meant to replace milk. Cheap oat milk doesn’t cut it and separates too often for my liking.
Someone mentioned the Oatly Barista one. If you’re in a country with Alpro, I really like their “Not Mlk”.

5·2 months agoI don’t quite get the predecessor argument. It’s pretty common knowledge that the church does not wear a white shirt, but why would you judge the modern Pope by the things a Pope a thousand years ago has said? Like, these are not the same worlds anymore. They didn’t even have the printing press back then.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Recommendations on games in which you don't play as the "good guy".
0·2 months agoWell, both play before Big Boss’ downfall, and V definitely is us playing the good guys. Diamond Dogs go on humanitarian missions, topple dictators off screen in text-based missions, and save the world. Of course, you can also completely be merciless towards the Soviets or the PMCs in the game.
Yeah. I use vifm, neovim and vimium c for firefox. It covers many areas. Just my settings aren’t vimified yet.
I do most things on my laptop mouseless, or that is, trackpadless. It’s the best feeling ever. I seriously recommend it to anyone.

Technology@lemmy.world•Manjaro Linux Team Goes on Strike, Threatens to Fork the ProjectEnglish
7·3 months agoDoesn’t look like it. But the project will now go to the to-be-founded non-profit association.
Philm actually replied around the time of your comment, sharing his disdain that this plan was set in motion, while as company owner he has no one to talk to legally, since the association has not been founded yet. He’s supportive of the move, and technically he’s right. The association should’ve already been founded, to be fair.
I hope this means Manjaro will thrive!

I mean, bicycles and pedelecs exist as well and I really don’t need to be unconscious in traffic.
