What’s brilliant about this meme is you have both ends of Ohio covered. Cincinnati down south and Cedar Point on the lake.

In astronomy, Galaxy clusters are just areas where the density of galaxies is above average and voids are areas where the density is below average. Galaxies attract each other, so the material for Galaxy clusters has to come from somewhere, and that somewhere is voids.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•YSK: Flo period tracking app is proven spyware! Here is what you should use instead.
114·1 month agoAny app that you are using to track your medical information is 100% saving that data and selling it off. I don’t know why people are shocked to discover this.
The barges were just a little less than a few meters wide. The manpower to build a 100km long canal that is 2.5-3 meters wide is substantially less than what it takes to dig one 8 meters wide in the era before steam shovels.
Not really. Most of these old canals were only a couple yards/meters wide and dried up 100 years ago.

Global News@lemmy.zip•US | Trump's 'Golden Dome' will cost $1.2tn and might not stop all-out missile attackEnglish
1·2 months agoStrategic Defense initiatives don’t protect you from a first strike situation, they protect you from a second strike situation after most of the enemy’s missiles have been destroyed. They invite first strikes because what you are telling the world is that you believe you can strike with relative impunity.
They built and designed the wright flyer at their shop in Dayton, they just decided to test it in NC. It’s kinda like saying NASA was from Houston but all the space stuff actually happened in Florida
It should be noted that those 7 presidents average out to less than 4 years. More of a quantity vs quality sort of state when it comes to leading the nation.

3·2 months agoEbay is king if you are into collectibles. I used to buy and sell baseball cards all the time and eBay is a good aribter, although they tend to favor the buyer over the seller. I bought a used trombone on eBay a month ago and that was good, plus a cat tree last year.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•When do we start saying the 00s, the 10s, 20s and 30s?
9·3 months agoFlat screen TVs replaced CRT in the 2000’s, the iPhone came out in 2007, HD home media in the form of Blu-Ray, the PS3 and xBox 360, and mass internet adoption all occurred in the 2000s. You just didn’t think it was special because you were growing up with it. The slow web pages you complain about are because telecom companies in the US took billions of federal grants to upgrade their systems and then just pocketed it
Not really since we enter their realm and they give us what for. This is more akin to walking to the local shop for a snack and getting scooped up and carried away by a giant eagle
Confusing as hell that we have moons called Titan, Titania, and Triton. Really need to spice things up a bit

Science Memes@mander.xyz•Only half of the calories produced on croplands are available as food for human consumptionEnglish
4·3 months agoThe article is all cropland, not just corn. So it includes things like wheat production in the western great plains, fruit and vegetables in the Imperial and Central Valleys in California, apple farms in Washington and Michigan, oranges in Florida and California. But you are correct that most corn, soy, and alfalfa are grown for non-human consumption

17·3 months agoMaybe you should look at who has been expanding the surveillance state for the past 25 years, because it’s essentially a bipartisan issue in Congress and all administration. Edit to expand on my point, but the Democrats continued sycophancy to giant corporations and refusal to enact policies to benefit actual people is why America has accelerated towards fascism for the past 30 years.

9·4 months agoYeah I doubt the Kurds are interested in fighting wars the US anymore since they have been burned every time. I believe that Kurdish armament this month is purely defensive since they have no idea how this is all gonna play out.

Dark matter just makes voids more isolated from each other. Our void is still within the greater Laniakea Supercluster, but our immediate area is very sparse. The only galactic merger that the Milky Way will experience is with Andromeda in 1.5 billion years, and maybe with Traingulum a bit after. But there will be a ton happening in the Virgo Cluster next door as those galaxies are all close enough to each other that gravity is the predominant force in the region. But the galaxies in the middle of the cluster will gather towards their gravitational center, while the galaxies at the periphery of the cluster will form a “shell” of sorts. Voids are just the bubbles that remain from the gathering of clusters.
