Get any Linux sysadmin certificate! The world’s infrastructure runs on Linux, CI/CD-pipelines have a heavy Linux bias, and compared to how Oracle or SAP certs have developed, anything certifying you as capable of installing, setting up, and administrating a network of productive Linux servers is imho the straightest way to a solid job.
Aging 20-30 years in that future should be portrayed as ~10-15 years of aging in our timeline. People (esp. Inners) are far more long-lived thanks to advanced pharmaceuticals. See the coroner’s bit about life expectancies in S1.
Point is though, that you’ll want no trouble with the law abroad, especially on a school trip. Keeping a respectfully low profile is never a bad idea.

I do mean with Linux. I bought it with Widows on and eventually put Debian on it. KDE Plasma already does a wonderful tablet mode out of the box and it’s getting better. The stylus isn’t all that reliable yet.
If a SW dev applicant gives a 20-file generated output for a 20-line assessment problem and can’t explain single lines of “their” code, either what they should be doing or why “they” had written it, it’s gonna be a no from me, dawg. A standard problem might have different solutions, but fixing the issue of the day to the satisfaction of a rabidly vocal customer base might have one at most, and it will change multiple times on a whim.
So the LLM might have helped them cheat their way to an MSc, but there’s no cheating your way through real life.
Conversely, being forced to use Excel with Copilot is the traditional punishment for unwarrantedly flogging somebody (you need to get consent first, mmkay?).
I’ve bought a Surface Go 2 a few years back and the startup time has steadily risen from a poor ~2min to well over 5min. But ever since I’ve deactivated secure boot and installed Debian with Plasma, it’s become my beloved workhorse with a boot time of <1min after entering the LVM key.
Surfaces are great hardware for the (old) price. A pity hardware’s becoming unaffordable…
