Odd… I thought the whole question was meant to start a discussion but it seems like no one is willing to discuss it…

I’m confused. Explain to me how it’s self-righteous to expect people to pay for things that people create as opposed to stealing them? The only “personal investment” that I have is that I create things for a living and need to get paid for those creations in order to survive and support my family… If only one person bought it and then freely shared it with everyone else, I wouldn’t be able to pay my bills.
I don’t think I am. The potential conversions from adults addicted to YouTube with plenty of disposable income (techies) is probably greater than the conversions from a little kid who gets to watch Peppa Pig for 2 hours a day.
But maybe I am… who knows. Either way, Google doesn’t deserve the benefit of the doubt regardless.
In fairness, those 5% of users probably make up a larger portion of views than their non-blocking counterparts…
Wait… never mind. Fuck fairness. Fuck Google. Fuck YouTube.
I’m not insinuating guilt, I’m outright stating it. Someone created those books. Whether it was one person in their basement or a company like WotC, you’re depriving the creators of income that they would have otherwise gotten when the normal social contract is observed. If you want more of a creator’s work, you need to pay them.
In your initial reply, you asked how it differs academically. It doesn’t. Sharing is sharing, from a purely academic perspective. From a non-academic perspective, which would include economic, financial, and contractual perspectives as well, it matters very much to the people creating the things being shared.
Yeah, but as a creator, I have to be principled. If you want more things that you like, you have to pay for them. I don’t like the system and I fight to change it at every turn but it’s the system we have.
In essence, it doesn’t. In a practical sense, however, one is taking something that’s been paid for and passing it on while the other is stealing. You can try to justify it morally all you want but those kids clearly didn’t have any qualms with giving WotC their money so you stealing on their behalf is simply an excuse.
If more people in the world were like you, it would probably be a better place. You have no idea what positive impact this will have on these kids but I promise you that they will remember you.
Damn. Love me some Justice Ruth…
Then their parent is buying me new side panels, unless the artwork is good.
Kinda hate to say it but… same. The stereo is my favorite part and it’s the best stereo I’ve ever heard in a car. It’s incredible.
Yeah… and, especially on the PS5, those panels are removable/replaceable. You can always get news ones.
To play devil’s advocate, I bought a Model 3 in 2017 and have had 0 issues with it also and it has none of the fit-and-finish issues that newer ones have.
I don’t get this. I would love it if my kids did that to my PS5. In fact, I might actually have them do it. Custom PS5 that is made specifically for me sounds awesome…
Yeah, it tends to stir up more on here but I can’t tell if it’s actually more prevalent or if I just notice it here because the interactions are a lot more sparse than they were on Reddit. It may still be only 1 or 2 comments per topic but, when there’s only 20 comments total, it makes up a larger share of the comments than I would have noticed on Reddit amongst hundreds of comments.
Lemmy was already Reddit before the exodus. Lemmy users just have different interests so the bullshit is highly specific here.
I think they mean “off-site”, meaning that it’s not at the same location. That way if something happens at one location, such as burglary, fire, etc., your data is still safe.
It really is terrible. My attempt at translation: “The Day Before” is some zombie game maybe? And this new game is a rival to that? And it was made by the dev team that made Dave the Diver? And they released a 20 minute video of it? Maybe? Who the fuck knows…?
I use mine every day for hours at a time for personal use and for work. I must baby it although I don’t consider that an accurate description of my usage. I’ve never dropped any of my phones, though, except maybe on carpet. I must just be more deliberate than others in my use.
Great speakers that are incredibly well-tuned and balanced with power that gets them right up to the limit without clipping. Granted, these were the premium speakers installed with the first models so I don’t know if they’re still available but they are the best sounding audio system I’ve ever heard in a car.
