Technology@lemmy.world•Cars are like horses: people will soon realise EVs are just better, claims VW bossEnglish
21·6 days agomeanwhile here i am, in my classic car manufactured in 1985 and with a grin on my face every time i drive it.
yes. althought flatpak as a use case for userspace, typically desktop programs is arguably not bad, if you’re grandma is the one using the device… but bloated and at that point, why not AppImage.
i hate this, take my upvote.
yeah but it’s a hammer thatb you can only reasonable run with root privileges so if someone cracks the head they can remotely hammer you in the dick with it. anyway, great tool for hammering nails (using 4 GB of RAM per nail) and all, just weird for me, having come from the old computing era, that it’s not more restricted.
I’m always baffled at the security model (the lack thereof) of docker.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Those in countries with universal healthcare, what's it like?
0·1 month agoNetherlands: 2x stage 4 cancer with 10 years difference, so constant checkups, and of course the 2 treatments. we have “eigen risico” (own contribution) here (385 eur per year), and due to the many checkups I always max this out, but that’s pretty much where it ends, everything else is covered by the state (well, my state health insurance). the treatments were of course FoC, incl all the scans, the chemo, an operation, etc. i can not imagine the stress somebody without health insurance must have, when facing something like this. there are things that health insurance doesn’t cover or not fully: dentist i bought extra coverage for, fysiotherapy is only covered max 10x per year.

World News@lemmy.world•JD Vance accuses EU of ‘interference’ as he visits Hungary to help Orbán win electionEnglish
18·2 months ago…while he’s in Hungary, actively interfering.
also, Vance, the word you’re looking for is “kanapé”.

the problem is exactly the fact that it is a repo; it introduces a layer of unknown between the dev and the user. and the user will unavoidably “trust” it (especially when it’s listed amongst official repos in e.g. the graphical version of Pamac), without understanding the risks.
