DeGoogle Yourself@lemmy.ml•Why I moved from GrapheneOS to iodéOS on my Google Pixel
122·8 days agoNever heard of iodéOS. At first glance it looks like they take LineageOS for microG, bloat it with some random apps, and expect us to pay them for adblocking. Am I missing something?
These words feel like they make sense but I don’t believe in categories so who cares what they mean.
Sometimes a gardener invents a word and scientists make it useful by redefining it. See “meme”.

I agree that public keys need to be verified over a separate, secure channel. I also agree that meeting irl is to be preferred. My point is that using other channels for verification is still better than not verifying the keys at all.
actual effective end-to-end communication is only possible if alice and bob exchange public keys in real life
You can’t always meet all your peers in real life. Some other trusted channel may have to do in some cases.

Street View isn’t a reliable way of checking if a company still exists. Commercial registers exist for this exact reason. Calling the company’s phone or sending them an email will probably also do the trick more accurately than looking at a potentially outdated picture of their store front.
