They have also destroyed rent in lots of places. Here in Spain prices have more than doubled for rent since AirBnB is a thing. Landlords even tell you that they get way more money from airbnb, so supply and demand and all that.

Technology@lemmy.world•AI Slop Is Ruining Reddit for EveryoneEnglish
1·7 months agoYeah, after reading the article, it was like, oh, so the same fake stories but actually grammar corrected?
Also, most people who sre like “i have this tells tl detect AI” would not know at all whether something is AI or not lol

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•I'm new to lemmy, came from reddit. What's the lemmy etiquette like? How different is it from reddiqutte?
4·7 months agoThat is not necesarily true. An admin of an instance definitely can sell info. Same for respecting privacy. You do have more freedom though, since it’s federated, you can research whichever server you think aligns with your views/needs and choose that one while still interacting with the rest.

Technology@lemmy.world•Thank Mozilla for Killing Localization on Support Mozilla (And Replacing Human Contributions With AI Bots)English
2·7 months agoI have worked both as a professional translator in works not related to software and as a software developer, and also have participaded on open source public project translated by the community with weblate.
There is NO WAY at all that the AI translations are worse. DeepL has been powering your human translators pretty much since it released, and LLMs are way better at translating than the average Joe.
Most of those weblate managed translations I mentioned were absolute dogshit. Done by humans, done with passion and good intention (most of the time, some of the languages we did know less about had stuff that had nothing to do with the original texts).
Like, people assume since they speak a language that they are able to translate that language and that is not true.
Unless Mozilla had full time, proper translators working, the quality con only increase by using AI.
And if they did, they can sack most of the team, leave one per language, and have them review the translations, and they would save massive amounts of money. And like it or not, open source needs money to run.

1112·7 months agoI personally do not care, I usually do not want to go into communities/places where I’m not welcome. But disceiminating basing on gender, sex, sexuality, race, ideology, etc… usually frowned upon.
I just find that double standard quite pronounced.

525·8 months agoHmmm you are probably right, it does seem like the person in question is flooding the chat with the word. That is a problem, the word itself should not be (probably except when intentionally used to cause harm, but intention is quite difficult to measure or prove)

9·11 months agoI work IT… how exactly are they blocking wireguard?
Edit: Okay, I did the search, and as I guessed, they do not. Users seem to report UDP blocking and throttling in general, not wireguard (I’m not sure that would be possible). It’s not even particularly confirmed though.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•We wouldn’t need the Epstein files to prove DJT’s guilt if society just trusted women in the first place.
2·11 months agoAs long as the testimony is not from one of the involved parties, yes, eyewitness is evidence. The lowest tier of evidence, mind you, since it has been proven quite unreliable, even with cross-examinstion and the likes (sorry if it’s not the word, not a native English speaker).
But yeah, if it’s not the accusing party, or any party with interests in the matter, and it is proven there is no coercion or personal interest, it should count as evidence.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•We wouldn’t need the Epstein files to prove DJT’s guilt if society just trusted women in the first place.
316·11 months agoYeah, and inoccent until proven guilty. We should not believe absolutely anyone, regardless of gender, making any accusation.
Every accusation should be thoroughly investigated, though.
It happened with Neil Gaiman recently. Many accusations, no sentence for him (at least as of yet), he denies the claims.
Yet, massive lost to reputation, projects cancelled, etc.
If he’s found guilty, all the shame and consecuences to him, but society should stop acting like people talking or a “hyper graphical article” makes things true.
We live in the age of quick opinions, echo chambers, and the like.

What a bunch of cheap parasitic bastards, like it ubtil you have to give something in return, incredible.
