To wit: there is no “right people” to want to shoot, and anyone who thinks there is probably has their own tribalism issue to work out. Community defense specifically does not have a target right up until the point someone else is an aggressor, and ends when violence is no longer needed. This is why you never saw “antifa burns down trump supporter’s house” or whatever in the news.

Are they still victims when they become violent? Or when they promote violence? At some point the threshold is crossed.

Not really, such a thing effectively depends on the same people already in power.

Essentially, the US government is impossible to fix while regular people are so easily manipulated by propaganda and the interests of the wealthy.

The important part is the scale. When you look at exactly how much coal is burned, even a tiny fraction of a percent being radioactive is actually a lot.

I hear this point all the time, but it’s simply not true. The total power that humanity consumes could perhaps eventually be generated with wind and solar, but they don’t generate on demand, scalable power to provide the actual base load needed.

Don’t get me wrong, I think every new building (and probably the old ones too) should have solar panels, but that doesn’t negate the need to move the base power generation to nuclear from coal and oil.

Because neither party would? The red koolaide people would dismiss this idea immediately, because it’s clearly scary communism. The blue koolaide people would pretend to support it while asking for your votes, then proceed to conveniently forget about it entirely, or pretend to try to do it while also receiving lobbying money from nearly every corporation and anti-workers-union type organization.

The people that would support this are not part of either party.

This is really the case for all essential services (which I believe factual new is). Just look at the mess healthcare has made, or the ‘food industry’, or education.

But this is basically as radical of a suggestion as banning cars lol. We’d have to have affordable housing, jobs, social services, food and resources, etc. available for those trying to migrate into cities. Most US cities don’t even have those things for the people that already live there - almost always due to NIMBY regulations with some good old fashion bigotry mixed in.

We would basically have to first see a massive change in governance trends before this could be doable.

Of course, this is entirely ignoring the cultural challenges.

We can still categorize a concept, even if the technology doesn’t exist in a useful state yet.

But I think you’re right that all energy forms should be nationalized. The only way humanity can continue to be the dominant species on earth is if we can declare a “war on pollution” and commit to it in the same way we could commit to actual war.

Fission and fusion reactors are really more like in-between renewable and non-renewable. Sure, it relies on materials that are finite, but there is way, way more of that material available in comparison to how much we need.

Making this distinction is necessary to un-spook people who have gone along with the panic induced by bad media and lazy engineering of the past.

Layer 8 issues occur all the time.

It’s not about consumer markets really. The CAFE emissions regulations essentially allow vehicles with larger dimensions to get lower mileage. So instead of the regulations ostensibly intended to lower emissions forcing better mileage, manufacturers just make bigger cars with the same or worse mileage than before. I used to have an S10 that got almost 20mpg, could park anywhere, could haul full sheets of plywood, and was surprisingly capable of road (came with the ZR2 package).

People still want this, they just aren’t built because of asinine laws that get created through massive amounts of lobbying.

Ehhhhh, you’re missing the human element. Humans do dumb shit all the time. You can’t stop someone from reading something with their eyeballs, remembering it in their meat brain, and using their sausage fingers to type it back into something unsecured. Odds are still low of course, but I wouldn’t be so confident.
