World News@lemmy.world•French prosecutors open probe over treatment of French nationals on Gaza flotillaEnglish
11·7 days agoThere are dual citizens on both sides in that conflict (even though in majority on Israel side). So there is an obligation to investigate as par IHL.
Edit: On a side note, each country which had a boat submitted to piracy in international waters is entitled to respond to it as an act of war.

News@lemmy.world•ICE detainees are dying by suicide at an 'alarming' rate, an AP investigation finds
2·17 days agoI’m aware many other places use apostrophes, but ICE is a US peacecrime.
Which can be written about from other places. A better argument would be that AP is based in the US, yet they still use single quotation marks.

1·1 month agoAlmost all costs come down to wages when you look at the economy of an entire country.
Yes. There is the matter of productivity somewhere in between, which is mainly linked to innovation and past capital expenses.
they also pay less for steel sheets, cables, cloth and leather for seats
Not really. These are already procured externally in a globalized world where manufacturing already left to low-wage places

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL that for the average price of a car in the US, you could buy 5 cars in ChinaEnglish
21·2 months agoThing is the average US car is bigger than a sedan because lots of SUV & trucks. And the models mentioned are a mid size (smaller than a sedan), a micro car, and a mid/small SUV.
All in all Chinese cars are 30% cheaper (which is amazing) the whole 1:5 isn’t relevant.
