Oh my God that’s exactly what it was. Awful!!! It was really not good.

I was passing through Montevideo, Uruguay, and me and some folks at the hostel I was staying at were out trying a local restaurant. The guy who owned the place saw we were tourists and said he wanted to treat us to a local specialty, and so brought out… something. It was something like animal bits, chunks of fat, and who knows what else all suspended in a hard gelatin. It was truly vile, and I swear it had bits of hair in it as well. To be polite we all tried a small bit, and then got the heck out of there as quick as we could.

To this day I can’t tell if he was sincere, or if he really hated tourists and gave us the contents of his dish trap. Googling has turned up nothing, but thankfully our politeness didn’t extend to actually finishing the awful thing.

My VPN connection appears to change whenever I connect, because it’s connecting to the quickest server, so I am not able to use the same settings in qbittorrent. How do you manage server shifts like that?

It’s almost like the legal system is made to be obscure and obtuse by design. Difficult to know what’s going on there as a lay person.

They are appealing temporary restraining orders, which are not legally appealeable! TROs are extreme methods of relief designed to stop something from occurring that has a huge risk of irreparable harm, and are temporary so that the court can actually take the time to weigh the issue.

Usually a TRO is issued for 2-3 weeks, the court takes that time to come to grips with what’s happening, and then can rule with a better understanding. If you could just appeal a TRO, then you could just take the action that causes the irreparable harm faster than any court can effectively rule, which is why they’re not supposed to be appealeable.

So yes, appealing a TRO is dystopian and illegal, but who can stop it? The supreme court eventually…

Because teenagers are dependants and the parents are responsible for their wellbeing. Since humans wish to and need to reproduce, society has ultimately decided (for better or worse) that the best way to protect everyone is to make children the responsibility of their parents until they are adults. The adults made the decision to have a child, and so that child is their responsibility until they child can be responsible for themselves.

By and large, I would say this is not true. Ask any random folks who Pinochet and the Chicago Boys were, or ask about MKULTRA or COINTELPRO, or Operation Cóndor, and the best you’re likely to get is a blank stare.

I think a most of the more terrible things the US has done is known by highly educated folks who were given the opportunities to learn them on specialized education tracks, but not by most folks on average, which really sucks =/
