Additionally, the raised and blunt hood height makes a full-body impact with no force dissipation much more likely, particularly for shorter people, where a more traditional hood shape allows a struck pedestrian to roll over the top and avert some of the force of the strike
It works great for notes, it’s not great for recording data because if it mishears me/I mumble once an entire set of 500+ observations can be frame shifted away from their identifiers and I have to redo it
As if the Kamala/Waltz ticket isn’t an extension of the current administration, why would they wait?
Gesture typing is definitely faster, but I find it much less accurate and requires vision. My old sliding phone I could write whole essays in my hoodie pocket while walking home with few to no typos, which was a niche use-case for sure but an existing one. I work outside a fair amount and would love having that back for notetaking in the field
You should be able to, but US non-car infrastructure is so abysmal that there’s a strong chance you can’t safely unfortunately
And help one of the 5 benefits they listed?
They don’t make it obvious at all, in fact they do their best to seem like you can’t
US funding for basic research–the type that will lead to the truly paradigm-shifting breakthroughs–has also been in decline for 50+ years as a proportion of GDP. While bureacracy could be an obstacle, the much larger one is insufficient resources to fund a lot of moonshots that may fizzle or may result in 'zero to one’s innovation, as the author states
I have an aeropress and have only ever used a metal filter with it! I’ve had normal paper filtered aeropress coffee and I can’t taste the difference
Mirror every object. You don’t realize how many things are designed with a right-handed assumption unless you aren’t right handed. Also, most people can’t read well anymore because it’s all backwards
I don’t have specific papers but a lot of research into the origins of life on this planet go into that kind of thing! I know there have been interesting findings into using clay imprints for self replication, for instance
If you’ve ever played around with an old-style lighter (think classic Zippo) you’d get it! They’re fairly expensive, and aren’t airtight so they need to be refilled every few days/weeks. If you fill them too much they need to be kept upright or they’ll spill lighter fluid on you. Super cool and can hold flames for a while but not nearly as conventient as a matchbook for quick fire lighting
My aunt is a big gardener in 7a (piedmont NC) and has overwintered jalapenos a few times and declared it not worth it for her, apparently the yields aren’t much/any bigger than new seedlings and it’s a nontrivial amount of work and space to keep them overwintered. If you try again and have different results I’d love to hear about it!
