I’ll be honest, I like it. It has a soft texture, nice mild buttery flavour, and can be incorporated into various dishes though is commonly eaten on its own as sashimi.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is it impolite to ask someone about their roots?English
0·2 months agoIf we just met, yes it is rude. We’re strangers, my life story is none of your business. If we’re more than acquaintances, I expect it would come up naturally at some point in conversation so not rude (hopefully).
I’m a visible minority so I have to weed out the people who are just trying to satisfy their curiosity about why I’m not white. Those people don’t ever accept the answer that I’m from Vancouver, or that my parents are from Winnipeg. I will never be Canadian enough for those people because of how I look.
Nobody ever asks my white spouse out of nowhere whether he speaks X language even though he’s given no indication that he does, and nobody ever asks him where he’s really from.
Looks exactly like how my parents make it, this was like my favourite dish growing up.
My coworker once started a conversation by casually asking if I’d ever “done anything” with a cousin. Obviously the conversation ended with him revealing he’d fucked his cousin and me saying WTF progressively louder and louder for at least a minute. I work from home now.
I just don’t understand how this happened. Did no one else on the Australian team see her dance and be like ???
I saw the Australian guy’s dance and he at the very least knew what he was doing.

0·4 months agoWe did ours early, simply because neither of us knew what to do for dinner the other day. We found this excellent Indian butcher that offered pre-marinated meats and it was amazing. Tandoori lamb chops and smoky chipotle chicken thighs 🤤

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some non-mainstream foods or drinks from your culture that social media isn't aware of and hasn't ruined?English
0·5 months agoChinese soups of various kinds. Many of them are pretty brothy, which I guess isn’t what a lot of people are looking for in a soup, so they’re not super popular unless you’re used to them.
Some people whose first language doesn’t have gendered pronouns mix them up when they speak English.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Those who have moved residences, do you still remember all the places you've been, do you feel anything about it when remembering it or looking at street views? Do you feel sentinmental about it?English
0·6 months agoI’m only sentimental about my childhood home, and my parents still live there so I can relive those fond memories whenever I want. The area around it has changed a lot though, and it makes me feel a bit wistful thinking of how it used to be. I guess this is how you realise you’re old.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does anyone actually like... talk to extended family/relatives? Like an active effort to maintain relations and not just because of forced family gatherings?English
0·6 months agoNo, but I’m an introvert like my dad. My sister and my mom do, they’re way more social. My closest cousin in age doesn’t talk to me, and I don’t talk to him, but we’re each other’s favourites and we’ve said as much in front of our other cousins.
Some of my aunts and uncles randomly showed up in my city and invited me out, so I showed them around a bit, and it was a nice time. I’m finding as I get older that I appreciate family more.
