Technology@lemmy.world•Traffic Camera Captures Woman Driving With Her Phone on Her Lap (Face Down), The State Mailed Her a $1251 'Public Safety' TicketEnglish
263·5 days agoI mean, it would also be insane to take someone’s license away for actually using their phone at this point too. Newer cars have actual touchscreen tablet interfaces that requires the driver to look away from the road; sometimes even to see basic information like their current speed. Plus, there’s all these dickbags on the road in pickups or other light trucks (with or without those iPad screens) that are purposefully designed primarily to exude masculinity, not be safe vehicles to drive.
At this point, I don’t know how we argue that the phone thing is dangerous without the allowance of all that other shit contradicting that reasoning. Even worse, the existence of these infotainment systems in the cars themselves has probably resulted in charges laid against poorer people who drive older vehicles disproportionately while Keith is on his way to work at the landlord factory and watching Madagascar 3 on his speedometer.
lmao, I think it is even more delusional to presume that there’s people younger than 20 on Lemmy. I’ve taught people who don’t even remember Obama’s presidency.
The problem is – and maybe you are too young to remember this – people have always just made shit up on the internet. I don’t even know where the fuck you’re going to find people who don’t take issue with actual slurs besides chud and lib sites, Lemmy included, which are hardly universally"leftist" spaces (and it seems like you don’t know the difference between a “leftist” or “liberal”). Who knows what fucking bots you’re running into or what algos have pushed into your engagement based on your activity, I can certainly say I haven’t seen any of the shit you’re describing, even on actual leftist communities. You think “scumbag left” is what, new? You seriously think white, cishet men haven’t used slurs this whole goddamn while even if they did claim to be socialists?
So, do you have a source? A link? Any actual evidence that what you’re saying is in any way emblematic of some sort of popular discourse or cultural trend? Or did you make it the fuck up?
“My source is I made it the fuck up.”
“My source is I made it the fuck up.”
You can’t even tell what is wrong with the presumption that you can universalize childhood development, can you? “Target areas of lack…?” You mean like, any other fucking assessment that isn’t rooted in racist, sexist, and ableist notions of universal standards of knowledge or intelligence?
What a circular argument.
Could you cite something? I haven’t seen any of this, and I’m very curious to see where it’s coming from.
Sure, so what’re its uses?

science@lemmy.world•Conservatives are dying at higher rates than liberals. A new study points to mistrust in medicineEnglish
11·17 days agoLove that you couldn’t even control yourself long enough to read up to how this connects to racism and colonialism and decided instead to admit that you don’t care if you advocate for white supremacy to own the MAGAts.
It’s fine to call them stupid, dummy, it’s bad to assert that intelligence is naturalized and unfit members of society deserve to be purged from existence. News flash: that is anti-science (and science and anti-science are both political btw), dicknuts.

11·17 days agoYes. I give a shit about challenging racism, genocide, or any other forms of naturalized violence under colonialism and capitalism. Apathy is for liberals.

22·17 days agoReally wish you guys would stop subscribing to eugenics as an own against fascists. I know you’re gonna say it isn’t, because you guys always do, but the obvious joke here is that they’re stupid and make stupid decisions because they are stupid and are purged from the collective genepool because they are stupid. Do you seriously not see the problem with reproducing the notion that political and cultural forces are in fact consistent with the natural world, or that people who are “stupid” are weak and unfit to be part of human evolution?
Yes, anti-science beliefs are not a sign of scientific (or emotional) literacy, and the people who refuse medical science on the basis of politics likely do not understand either topic very well. It is worth noting that the recent Ebola outbreak in the DRC was met with violence from locals who did not trust the medical institution (and this has happened before), which also results from a misunderstanding of what that institution is and how it works: https://www.npr.org/2026/05/29/g-s1-124359/ebola-outbreak-trust-death-burial-democratic-republic-congo. Their mistrust is also earned by centuries of EuroAmerican imperialism and decades of capitalization on the material and political insecurities in the DRC.
There is certainly good reason to attribute more responsibility to privileged white people in the US imperial metropole, but your joke makes the exact opposite point, which is that people who are too “stupid” to accept medical science are naturally inferior to those who do. Can you see the problem with taking that assertion for granted as a “joke?”

15·21 days agoI don’t know how someone who grew up around people who drinked could have any other perception of alcohol than as poison. I don’t know a single person who drinks regularly who doesn’t have health conditions directly linked to it.
North America was the industrial powerhouse of the world until quite recently, and it also happened to be completely organized around the need for settlers to buy up and captialize on property. It is a culture centered on adversarial productivity; there’s a reason fascism has always boiled under the surface.

1·22 days agoThat’s kind of what I was wondering, I figured this as well as a way to track that it is at least sending data at unusual times. Someone else in this thread explained that actually determining what that data is would be difficult yeah: https://lemmy.world/post/48510943/24408747
I don’t know enough about system security or forensics to evaluate this, but it does make sense based on what I know.

1·27 days agoGo learn the history behind our healthcare system. They don’t need to form a govt in order to be effective. Everyone else understands what FPTP is and how Liberals weaponize anxiety over it by presenting themselves as some alternative to the Cons when they’re functionally identical; especially in this case. You learned a single thing about this system and think that makes you smarter than everyone else. People make different decisions from you even with the same or more knowledge than you.
People like this are why neolibs have successfully gutted every social welfare system across this country.

I’d rather some more just form of death than anything having to do with the US “justice” system.
When someone is dangerous, honestly, it’s just better for everyone that their ability to commit harm is immediately ended. These men are already all old and whether by natural causes or a victim’s bullet, they just need to die. A court case would mean years and years of platforming and then ultimately a dissatisfying compromise.
