I mean, it never really officially changed, the term just started broadly bring used as “first world” == good and modern and “third world” == shitty and backwards by people that didn’t know what it actually meant.

The Slate looks like it won’t be, hence my interest.

It is by the very definition of the term. It is just that “first world” doesn’t mean what people think it does and isn’t necessarily even good.

+1 for Necesse. It feels like a super lite version of Rimworld and a top down perspective Terraria combined.

Why do the Nazis always flee to Argentina?

What if I just want one so I can hold a sword up in front of it an yell “I HAVE THE POWER!” like He-man? Can I still get one? Guys, why are you walking away?

You are quite correct in your current impression of the state differences. My backyard in my previous Florida home bordered on a protected watershed area. I referred to it as Dagobah, and you essentially couldn’t go in the backyard for a good part of the year without getting swarmed.

I came for the bees gif in the comments and I quite satisfied.
Oh that trick I fully employed. They had to retire 19 internal applications within a year of me leaving :D
I’ve been in these sorts of situations (had enormous access to critical systems and data and was poorly treated by employer), but logically I just don’t think it is worth the risk to myself, my family, and my future in general to get revenge on these sort of things. It would need to be some sort of Princess Bride situation (“You killed my father, now prepare to die”) kind of thing to bring me to that sort of insanity.
I have also had coworkers that did similar-ish things and they were quite lucky that all that happened was that they were immediately fired and blackballed.

FWIW, All of my cameras are onsite and store video on the network. Most of the affordable options got replaced with cloud products because of enshitty reasons, but it can be done reasonably by companies as long as they have someone IT adjacent or have IT services than can do the initial setup (which they’d probably hire out anyway) and do minimal monitoring of the video server and handle backups.

The “public WiFi” used by a lot of cities is just standard commercial/enterprise APs, so it may not be the same thing anyway. Arguably, that makes a lot more sense to use in most cities than the more exotic wide area deployments. It is still cool that it exists.
From what I understand, yes. I am not really onboard with that plan so I am just trying to continue doing what I can of the exercises that my physical therapist gave me and hope that it can alleviate a bit of the pain and periods of immobility.
I really, really wish I could get back into it. I had some severe back injuries and now I have days where I can barely stand. Physical therapy helped a bit, but they have said that some risky (and very expensive) spine surgery is my best bet to get back to semi normal.
The next thing you’re going to tell us is that people don’t love to hear about how you run Arch. I don’t believe it! :D

I also didn’t come away impressed enough my from Kagi demo to begin paying for it. If they weren’t leaning so hard into AI stuff I may have paid for a bit just to support the idea of a search engine that “you weren’t the product” as the saying goes.

Yeah, that shady Y-axis is doing some heavy lifting here.
If you’re in a position to have access make this sort of thing, you likely have access to code bases or system accounts. This is a good way to go to prison IMO.

Not a single one of those comments gives the clarity that you see to think that it does. There were two comments that seemed to support removing Linux from the free tier because… ? No real reason was given, even by these vague supporters as to why it should be free for Windows and not Linux.
Of course we are, beef has become unaffordable to the masses.
