The 18-year-old is in immigration detention after being arrested on graduation weekend in Milford, southwest of Boston, where he’s attended school since he was 6, friends said.

An athlete, a musician, an exceptional high school student with an infectious smile.

This is how community members in Milford, Massachusetts, described Marcelo Gomes Da Silva, an 18-year-old high school junior who was arrested by immigration authorities and sent to a detention center this weekend.

Gomes Da Silva was driving his father’s car on his way to volleyball practice with some of his teammates Saturday morning when immigration authorities stopped him.

Immigration authorities made the traffic stop because they were looking for Gomes Da Silva’s father, who is unlawfully present in the country, according to Todd Lyons, acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

After learning Gomes Da Silva was also unlawfully present in the U.S., ICE officers took him into custody, Lyons said Monday at a news conference.

I don’t remember all of them, but I still check on Mahmoud regularly. I can’t do much about it, but I haven’t forgotten that he’s been sitting there for months without committing a crime.

Mahmoud Khalil still in ICE custody

You did something today: you helped remind me of him, with so much chaos he slipped my mind.

If you’re feeling frustrated by lack of power to do anything what you can do to help is chip away Trump’s pillars of support. Have you ever played Jenga? If you pull out enough blocks the tower will eventually fall. The biggest blocks holding up Trump are the billionaire wealthy donors and the right-wing propaganda machine.

Twitter is an example of both right-wing propaganda machine and owned by the biggest political donor to the GOP and one that we all can easily make a difference in by personally stop using it if you have an account and urging your friends and family to also stop using Twitter. Then try contacting organizations with an account and ask them to switch to Bluesky. And of course boycott Tesla and boycott Starlink too. If you like buying stocks maybe invest in SpaceX’s competitors.

For billionaire donors you can boycott their companies for example Uline is another big donor. We can make a difference. I see them as a good boycott target due to their reputation of being overpriced. Whenever you buy something online look at the box and labels. Do you see the words Uline on it? If so contact the vendor and tell them that Uline is overpriced and unethical, they can save money by switching to another supplier. This post shows someone about cut their costs in half by switching away from Uline: https://bsky.app/profile/geneha.com/post/3low65f4zac2d and https://refuseuline.com/ has a long list of alternatives.

Another big donor is the fossil fuel industry. I recently made a post about what you can do about that.

notice they are not terrorizing and kidnapping people in places with “better” self defense and gun laws?

    terrorizing people is their goal.

If they pop an ICE agent its a PR win for the fascs. They’ll spin it as “see how violent they are” or the like

Well yes but that’s not what they’re saying. They’re saying that ICE will make the immigrants out to be the “Terrorists” to use as cause to arrest more.

Not really. Escalation can mean more public sentiment in favor of enforcement, but remember this is the same country where everyone has been pissed at the police for decades. Escalation means retaliation, and if you push them off the cliff to open genocide, you can shock people into doing something about it.

Time to brush off the old non-violet protest strategies. If Gandi can tell the British to get fucked, we can show these bloody bastards how we get it done.

Britain was also broke after WW2, and couldn’t really afford, nor did they want to, keeping India

So in a way India’s freedom was fought and won violently, it just wasn’t mainly India’s violence

They’re also not going after the ‘gang members’ that are supposedly terrorising the country.

Exactly that, they want to have large numbers in reports for ‘illegals deported’, but they’re going after the ones that are easiest to get: the ones with jobs that pay taxes and have kids that go to school. If you want to go after gangs, you need to put way more effort into things.

This isn’t going to make anyone safer and it’s extremely disruptive to communities everywhere.

History will fondly remember the people who deleted ICE agents before it was cool.

It will be cool and mainstream in less than a year.
