The ruling is a victory for Republican lawmakers and coal-related interests that argued that the carbon-pricing plan amounted to a tax, and therefore would have required legislative approval. Wolf, a Democrat, had sought to get around legislative opposition by unconstitutionally imposing the requirement through a regulation, they said.

Seems like they where trying to go around the opposition (with a majority). So couldn’t they just try this again if they do have a majority?

I assume they could when they control the legislature, and Shapiro or another dem is governor. It will need to be codified into law because the courts are calling it a tax. I like seeing PA making attempts even when it gets blocked. PA has such easy and cheap access to its own gas and coal, it might be one of the toughest states to get to transition to renewables. They have so much gas especially in Western PA…It’s not like trying to get an addict it stop using, it’s like asking the drug cartel to stop selling.

I’m hoping that changes. People were expecting PA to swing heavy red in the mid terms and it didn’t. It was very close. I’m hoping that mean in the general we can get a strong blue turn out.

Doubtful with the current maps, but anything is possible. The legislature flip was shocking enough

The maps are actually reasonably fair. The Senate seats up in 2022 didn’t have enough competitive districts for Dems to win the Senate, but the other half in 2024 provides a decent opportunity. The Senate is actually more favorable to Democrats than the House districts.

There are about 27 Senate districts that are blue-leaning or 50/50 under the new maps. The House on the other hand actually tilts red just a bit.

    Kind of a shit headline.

    1. Shapiro can appeal to the state Supreme Court

    2. It’s still legal, they’re just saying the governor can’t do it without the support of the legislature

I was driving between Maryland and Illinois and passed through Pennsylvania. Ecrytime we make this trip my boyfriend and I look for insane billboards cause it’s chock full of them. On in particular just mentioned that CO2 is in the atmosphere naturally and so we should actually burn more coal cause it’s actually good for the environment.
