Or, alternatively, they can get fucked.

Credit Companies are complete scum. Credit Cards didn’t even exist 50 years ago and now they think they can control the finances of unrelated companies.

Mastercard doesn’t give a crap about weed, and aren’t trying to control anything. They don’t want to be a part of federally illegal transactions. They want to follow the law, because they’re a big business and it’s dangerous not to. This is simple a result of the fact that weed is federally illegal - any other move on mastercard’s part would be irresponsible at this time.

Yes. Of course. Totally. Mhm. Yessir. Absolutely.

That’s why Mastercard, a credit card company is asking weed companies to stop accepting debit cards. Yessir. It’s to protect themselves. That’s why they want to stop debit cards. Because they’re clearly actually just credit cards in disguise who are hiding and Mastercard just wants to protect its tiny spy babies.

It totally makes sense that debit cards should stop with purchases at a weed store. It’s to protect credit cards. Yessir. Totes McGoats.

Mastercard is a payment processing company that processes both credit and debit card purchases. They don’t actually issue any payment cards themselves, they just want to make sure they aren’t processing payments that break federal law.

Two things, first was a typo. I meant 60 years not 50.

Second, my wording should have been ‘Credit Cards, as they are, didn’t even exist 60 years ago’. You can argue 1958, but there was no successful credit card that even remotely resembles the modern type in 1950. Even then, it wasn’t until late 1960s that the type of predatory credit card was generated. In the 1970s they made it far more aggressive.

            Jesus fucking Christ.

            1. I never stated when the first credit card was used. In fact, I was pretty clear with the clarification in my last comment. When the first card was actually created (Which was NOT the Diners Club Card but actually the Charga-Plate in 1928 but whatever) doesn’t really matter considering it wasn’t something that I ever brought up.

            2. American Express and Bank of America both launched cards in 1958, with Bank of America having the first successful one in Fresno with BankAmericard. MasterCard was created in 66 under the name Master Charge and CitiBank had their own (before merging with Master Charge) called Everything Card. You know, considering you want to get pedantic and randomly bring up irrelevant facts about credit cards.

Why have I encountered this three times today on Lemmy? What is it with this site that seems to attract people who just want to be like “UM ACTUALLY” when no one ever brought it up. This shit is getting to be utterly unbearable. Don’t know what the point was leaving reddit when the people here seem to be fucking worse.

Take a deep breath mate, no reason to get so worked up. Pretty sure both of you guys mostly agree with each other, just getting caught up in semantics at this point. Give each other a break :)
