help-circle

  • I worked in retail for a decade, and have been in IT for past 12 years. Mostly help desk. Mostly medical.

The advanced degrees these people have is astounding, but the lack of common sense is terrifying.

Like, these people are cutting into other people to fix shit? They can’t tie their own shoes, and the concept of a power button on a computer is too much.

This is the same person. Hopefully he has retired or died by now, cause those were his only real choices at that age.

Seriously, his assistant tied his shoes for him. She probably had advanced degrees of her own. And she had to tie an old man’s shoes on the daily.

Maybe there something to have such a laser focus like medicine specialties really does rob people of their common sense.

Tie? Shoe? No, but that artery is about to retract or some shit.

  • I mean, I don’t know if I’d still be interested in women after being a vampire that long, but I’d like to think so.

Go to a country with lax sex laws (or at least enforcement), set up a bordello and feed on the workers while they sleep off their necessary highs for doing sex work for a horrible human (vampire) being.

Plus, under the rules I’m fixating on mentally, drinking the blood of someone who is high will get the vampire high, and after hundreds of years plus immortality, I’m gonna get high at some point lol.

(Rules referenced: Old World of Darkness, VTM, etc)

  • Or slightly more expensive, if legal in your area, are actual locksmith tools.

I have a pick set I busted out this morning to unlock a pad lock on our circuit breaker (outside for some stupid reason, locked because its a new development and we had construction workers turn the house off while me and the wife were the only people on our respective jobs working the shift remotely)

We need power to run desktops. A UPS is handy, but its a bandaid to shut down correctly until power is restored fully.

  • Plus how many people have multiple computers in the house?

    I sure as fuck do.

I generally run a phone (just because it was mentioned), a desktop, and a laptop.

Plus, my wife technically has three jobs (1 full time, 2 PRN) and hardware (laptop) from each of them, plus she not only has a windows laptop, but a macbook, plus her phone, plus her tablet… it goes on, lol.

My desktop is currently on windows as I’m relying on some third party tools for a game, and I just haven’t had the energy to look into it and get it running on Linux. (EQ private server, well within their rules, though their rules don’t match the live environment - just wanted to clarify I wasn’t cheating anyone, if they include install instructions on the home page, I assume its allowable, plus the GMs give advice in chat for configuration for newbies)

The laptop, is almost, without fail, some flavor of Linux. Its a personal machine, but I’ve mostly worked night shift help desk… sometimes there is time to kill. So I keep it in my backpack of tools and other shit, boot it up and continue whatever I was looking into previously to entertain myself.

Technically, I’m studying for an advanced role at <Insert Company> on the security team, for the most part, lol.

Just because I cracked the coffee shop next doors wifi to borrow their internet (So I can view things that are NOT on my employer’s network on my personal phone) doesn’t mean I’m doing anything nefarious to my employers, and the coffee shop had the wifi password written on a board at their stations, but they were closed because while people may NEED coffee at 2AM (especially to keep fucking children’s hospitals running), they don’t seem to care.

  • They don’t always, trust me.

That being said, I miss our mom-and-pop Italian restaurant, and the same owners of a Mexican casual place across the street from the Italian place.

I know (for a fact) they take people straight out of rehab or jail, and train them on fine dining waiting, at least at the Italian location.

Give them an upscale skill that will still hire felons (or addicts in recovery), train em up, and be happy for their future success as an individual rebuilding their life, even if it isn’t at THEIR restaurant. They also understand that addicts may have lapses. My BIL works for them (now) but previously, their chef started showing up at the BIL’s AA meetings before he pretty much blackballed himself from his industry (The BIL, for clarity).

He didn’t violate AA rules, but he cautiously asked after the chef… yeah, he was cooking and drinking, and the food quality suffered. They gave the chef a week off, paid, to get his shit together - frankly speaking.

And he did. He spent the first couple days TANKED, and then sobered up again.

The owners are good people, but they’ll work you lol. Its a paycheck on par with the position, maybe a little better, but you’re gonna work up a sweat.

I’ve been in an office for the past ~12 years, and am looking for work in my new state, but just yesterday I applied for a job that consists of “pick up heavy boxes, put them elsewhere.” Today, not mentioning other jobs, I applied for a prep chef position. I’m not afraid of sweating, or even bleeding to an extent, but I need a paycheck lol.
