An update from a previous Android version to a newer one borked the battery life. It’s been noticeably worse than when new. It has times when it just heats up because the CPU is going better, but the actual load is minimal.

It’s done because this phone has battery saving features, like you can set it to only charge up to 80%. Over time the max battery life has taken a moderate hit. It’s not that it’s not tolerable, it’s just that I wanted to refresh. Also I kind of messed up my headphone jack, I thi k the ground contact broke, and I already ordered the replacement parts so I want that installed anyway, so I might as well put in a new battery.

I mean, aside from foldables, why should I buy a new phone if nothing’s changed much. Most new Android releases seem to make me dislike something here and there.

I say let the downvotes do the talking. If I go on the electric vehicles instance talking about how (non-ironocally) I love to roll coal and how that’s what’s keeping me from trying EVs, I expect to be downvoted into the shadow realm. I’m a world of growing instability where the inputs for modern lifehave their supply consistency threatened, learning some basic survival skills is not a bad thing. Many countries will likely have huge energy, food, and water shortfalls in the coming years. Germany is burning what amounts to wet coal to make up for losing Russian oil. Ukraine was one of the world’s biggest wheat producers. Russia produced a lot of the world’s fertilizer. There are reasons to learn how to live without the entire support network most of us take for granted.

Though you should be pretty decent at living off grid before commiting to it.

Don’t assume that you’re cougar-proof or that 40°F and below weather with no real insulation is something you can save yourself from with enough bootstraps.
