I know I can block content, my concern is my refusal to donate to an outfit that supports meta or similar properties.
I’m done with this. Very suspicious that I cannot delete this account after stopping my contributions due to the .world support for meta.

I’m not the one to answer that. I deleted my account on mastodon.social (no defederation policy) and signed up with mstdn.social (confirmed defed). Not sure if there is a “move” function as I never cared enough about social media posts to want to preserve them.
It would be ideal, but see the aforementioned corporate level no-speak reference so far. At least in this situation, it’s more than just Ublock Origin, PiHole and various filters passively preventing monetizing me, my donation cancellations are on that list until a definite no is posted by Ruud.
I’ve already moved my Mast account to an instance that has pledged to block threads. I was a regular donator to various mast/fedverse instances until this, all donations are off until further notice. I’m just tired of the constant interference and bombardment of needless bullshit into what should be no more than a simple but evolved Usenet or BBS type service.
I already moved and stopped my recurring donation to them.
I’ll take option B for zero dollars Alex.
Never thought I’d hear of meta implementing such a great feature.
I was going to wait until 30 July as to the de-fedding status, after reading this I cancelled all recurring donations and moved my account to an instance that preemptively DFed meta. Not much, but I refuse to support any outfit that even hints at tolerating that talibangellical/ya’llqaeda bastion of hate and ignorance. If the infection takes hold, well I lived for 30 years before social media, I can live my last 20 without it again.

I dumped all FB properties before dumping all Meta properties was cool.
This is just the latest in a cycle of wash-rinse-repeat reddit protests over the last 13 years.
I joined the year it opened up and had the same account until '10. I came back about '13 or '14 but came and went several times after that, I had no attachment to the new accounts I made by this point. The difference was those times I always deleted posts and comments after 24 hours regardless, disabled replies, stopped responding to those that got through, blocked any user that tried to message me, used old. and several filters/ad blockers. This latest episode crossed my tedium threshold and I deactivated my account when the latest round of WRR protests were announced. I won’t be back this time. I was also an early user on Digg and left in '10 and quite frankly I had forgotten Digg was a thing until I saw it mentioned in the latest reddit drama coverage. I’m pretty sure I’ll get reminded reddit still exists periodically when the next and following user-unfriendly policy protests make the news again.
Regardless of the article, using the term “unexpected” is kind of naive at this point.
