  • I’ve had tinnitus for probably close to 15 years at this point. I definitely tune it out most of the time. For a little while I was wearing ear plugs to bed, and the ringing was actually somewhat calming, kinda like my own personal noise machine. It can certainly flare up (gets louder and kinda painful) from time to time though, and the trick with covering your ears and thumping the back of your head helps when that happens, at least for me.

Just keep in mind, you can totally still live a normal life with tinnitus. There are services that can edit music for you to remove the exact frequency of your tinnitus from the audio, so that when you listen to it your body fills in the missing pieces and helps you ignore it. I haven’t used them though, so I can’t attest to their efficacy.

Oh yeah, I use it for everything from automated lights to server monitoring notifications to Web scraping for when Publix chicken tender subs are on sale. Most everything you can think of is pretty well documented, and someone’s done it before. They have made some UI changes recently that make creating automations easier, but if you are ok with copying and editing YAML files, you can steal what other people have created pretty easily.

  • I took gym class online in high school. Best class ever. Just had to make up data for much I ran and how many push ups I did every day. I started at 5 and went up by 1 every week so it looked like I was improving. It was a dumb state class requirement that slipped through the cracks when I moved between states after freshman year, so I had to cram it in my senior year to be able to graduate.

I set that as my status in Teams along with a little message “Please don’t just say hi. I might not see your follow up” and checked the box to make it show on chats. It’s definitely helped. Also got someone to complain that I was ignoring them, but they just said “hi” and nothing else so my boss sided with me that they were wasting my time without actually asking a question.
