Somehow when I first saw this it didn’t seem like an ad.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•People who "cross the T's and dot the I's" in their hand writing, how do you visualize a word when you write?English
0·15 hours agoI’ve said to coworkers in the past: I don’t really know my passwords, but fortunately my fingers seem to. It’s just the path they know. It’s kind of the same thing for my signature (on the rare occasion it’s needed).
I’ve heard signatures described more as art than handwriting. You’re drawing a picture of your name, not writing it out.
For several reasons, I wouldn’t know.

Technology@lemmy.world•I visited Meta's metaverse on the day it was supposed to shut down. I ended up in a horribly designed car park with no cars, for a restaurant that can sell no foodEnglish

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the laziest thing you have done?English
0·3 days agoI’ve had so many discussions with fellow nerds about the efficiency of hand placement and movement. Mostly they and I agree, but for some reason I’ve never understood, no one approves of using the heel of the hand for modifier keys, especially Ctrl. It doesn’t work on laptops but on external keyboards it’s always seemed the most efficient to me!

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How did we reach to having 18 required for voting in elections?English
0·3 days agodrinking, voting, driving - don’t do it in that order though
Got it. Drink, drive and vote. Thanks for the guidance!
(Realistically, don’t drink before doing pretty much anything important. Or that requires consideration or precision.)

Linux Questions@lemmy.zip•Can I install the Linux system from my live USB stick into the hardware of the target device, and yet the system inside my USB stick shall remain intact after doing the download ??English
1·3 days agoSome USB burners used to offer to create a persistent storage environment within the thumb drive. It’s been a while since I used anything other than Etcher (which doesn’t offer this that I’ve noticed) but the idea is certainly not impossible to achieve.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How much should I spend on an engagement ring?English
0·3 days agoI took my wife to a facility that was all about collaborative ring picking. It was no secret that I was going to propose; both she and I have always felt that the circumstances of the proposal could be a surprise, but the fact of and answer to the proposal shouldn’t be.
I ended up proposing to her while she was carrying a pile of my underwear. It wasn’t on purpose - I didn’t even notice until she had said yes - but she described it as “very us.”
With regards to budget, she and I discussed a range beforehand. We came up with a number that was nice but realistic for what we could afford at the time.
With regards to asking permission, I didn’t feel it necessary. I did technically discuss it with her dad beforehand, but mostly for the ceremony of the thing. I doubt he even remembers the conversation. It can be a nice gesture to do so - most good dads would probably like it and many women would probably enjoy the gesture - but I don’t think it’s needed.

So is she, and very much so.
I’d never heard a cat snore before meeting her, yet here she is wheezing the night away next to me.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Where did my dog go? Please read.English
0·12 days agoI recently witnessed a Streetview car going down my street. It was audibly taking several photos per second.
At least for my EV and in my state, it’s only required to simulate a noise up until a certain speed - 30mph, I think. I guess after that they assume you’re in a non pedestrian area or the car is making enough noise that it wouldn’t matter anyway.
