I mean, what were you expecting?

Inflation is legitimately bad and affects every aspect of one’s life in this country, and unlike abortion, adversely affects nearly the whole population of this country.

One of the lessons of fascist history is that, when people can’t afford basic necessities, they start caring less about social issues.

Inflation is caused by economic policy which is driven by politics

Doing things pike raising minimum wage makes it more expensive to operate a business which drives up prices

Yep, it did. Apparently Harris’ brilliant campaign strategy of saying that they weren’t going to change anything, and you should be joyful about being poor, didn’t result in a landslide election victory.

People didn’t vote Trump expecting major change. They voted Trump because they hate Democrats just that much after four years of rampant impoverishment and being gaslit about it.

Anyway I agree with you for the most part. I think Lemmy has a lot of far left extremism so anything that isn’t far left politically gets down voted

So… the economy got better during the last presidency, thanks to a tanked economy before it… and now it is tanking again unsurprisingly… but people hate being gasliit about democrats ruining economies? Harris’ campaign had a boatload of issues, but claiming the economy was going to continue was a safe bet to anyone who could read… fox news wasn’t telling them that so again, reading is important.

The economy is being destroyed because Trump is crazy

Long term though it isn’t as clear. Politicians almost always get economics wrong because the public gets it wrong

            For the wealthy maybe.

This is the gaslighting I’m referring to.

Well… as a bartender I must somehow be wealthy cause I sure did better the last 4 over the previous. And somehow this year has been OK but is spiraling down fast… maybe it’s just the gaslight? Or it might be people don’t spend money they are afraid they’ll lose cause of an economy that looks like it’s about to collapse (again)

I think the core of the problem is that the democrats left behind white low to medium income families and individuals. The US is about half democrat and half republican with a chunk in the middle called the swing voters. The democrats appealed to the existing democrats instead of the swing voters. I’m not sure what the demographic is for the swing voters but I have a feeling it is probably people who don’t want to see an extreme left.

So… you’re blaming the democrats for not running on “yes I will ruin this economy again” platform? I’m confused as to what that speaks to low to medium income voters… I am in that graphic, trickle down has been nothing but a godsend to the rich, and bootstraps was a joke to make fun of the poor… so where was any of this supposed to speak to “us” tell me what lost the vote? Last 4 years were ok, the years before less so, these look bad (hey I’m repeating myself)

I’m glad it worked out for you. It worked out for me as well, since I’m fortunate to have a good job. Even so, my grocery bills are up 30% - 40% over the last four years, and I’m not the only one. If I had a wife and family, that would be exceedingly difficult to manage.

But it seems the majority is getting tired of working multiple jobs and upwards of 100 hours a week in order to be able to rent a roach-infested studio, and they definitely didn’t want to be told to be joyful about it.

My eighty year-old parents have been borrowing my car for over a year to drive for DoorDash, because if they don’t, this country will render them homeless to make some billionaire asshole richer. The worst part is that is true no matter which party we hand power to.

Things were objectionably better under one president. The entire system is built around making sure the working poor stay there, but I can be happy that folk will come out and see me, and hey maybe they won’t get disappeared by the new SS. I refuse to let people tell me somehow the last 4 years were worse than the absolute garbage we have trudged through and are now just wading back into (that would be gaslighting by the way). Do I think somehow I would be able to afford a house and a car under Harris? Fuck no. Do I have to worry I might someday get disappeared now? It’s definitely close to the docket.

That’s fine. Your indignation isn’t going to change the reality of inflation or people’s grocery bills, and as much as people love to joke about the price of eggs, it underscores just out out-of-touch Democratic partisans are with working-class people, for whom the increasing cost of basic food staples is a very real threat.
