Had a dream about someone I know and have an eclectic relationship with (not romantic or sexual or anything, perhaps more emotional and intellectual) and I kinda feel different about them in the immediacy of that.

They didnt do anything, its just the dream was a negative experience and I didnt like them during the dream but, like I said, it had nothing to do with how we interacted or anything like that.

It’ll probably be fine in a few days and we dont chat a ton except when we do so its probably nothing. Interesting AskLemmy fodder in any case

I mean I don’t even get mad when people exhibit poor behavior in real life. They are just fulfilling my expectations

This happens to my spouse. She’ll have a dream about someone and then struggle to reconcile what she dreamed they did vs who they are. She has actively damaged relationships in some part because of this.

The question reminds me of this:

Ross: Why are you mad at me?

Phoebe: You said I was boring

Ross: When did I say you were boring?!

Phoebe: Oh my God, I remember now! We were playing chess!

Ross: Phoebe! You and I have never played chess!

Phoebe: Oh, come on! Yes, remember that time on the frozen lake? We were playing chess, you said I was boring, and then you took off your energy mask and you were Cameron Diaz! Okay, there’s a chance this may have been a dream.

Reminds me of an episode of Friday Night Dinner.

The dad has spent the whole episode complaining that the mum is angry and not talking to him for having dream cheating with “the Lady Di”.

At first it seems unreasonable for her to be in a huff, and the sons are on their dad’s side… But over the course of the episode the way that he goes on about it and keeps proudly dropping more and more details of the dream, such as it involving a named romp in a bath of milk, building up to the dad declaring something along the lines of “and she really had a fantastic pair of tits” as the final scene closes and goes to credits.

Had an ex punch me in the face the moment she woke up b/c I cheated on her in a dream

Literally nothing I could say would make her think rationally

She was shocked when I packed my shit and left

I had a dream about my best friend. They had been treating me so badly, but I wasn’t willing to see it. The dream laid it out in a way that was obvious. Once I saw the truth, I couldn’t unsee it. Our friendship ended within the year despite me trying to work on it and ask them to be kinder.

Yeah having the emotional content from the dream can change short term emotional and intuition reactions even if you recognize there’s no logical, rational reason for it. Best you can do is just be aware of the unfair biases our brains sometimes construct and try not to let it change your behavior.

I have, and when it happens I know it’s stupid and not based in reality, but for a day or two, it’s hard to shake those knee jerk emotions.

I was furious with my wife in a dream recently and it did take a couple of hours for me to be alright with her the next morning.

Done that! Can’t remember a thing, or even which wife it was, but yes, took me a couple of hours to come down off my anger. Really weird as I usually forget dreams immediately.

Some people put a lot of weight into their dreams. Like a chain of thoughts that leads to a deeper realization about something that finally puts it in perspective. This can feel important and it feels like you want to do something with this new perspective.

Some people don’t as they feel dreams are just chaotic nonsense, and trying to read into them is a fruitless endeavor.

Sometimes I read accounts of other people’s dreams (such as in posts like this one) and I’m always bemused by how much other people’s dreams make sense, at least a little. Mine are always nonsensical; best not to try and read into them, methinks.

Weirdly, I dream almost exclusively about people from my past, especially lovers. At some point I know I’ve woken up mad at my wife, but can’t remember any details.
