Major or minor, doesn’t matter. Just something you’ve been hoping for to happen for years and years, despite many promises and declarations made of that thing happening. Only for it to never happen at all.

Two things come of mind to me.

For America, we will never ever see an Independent take hold of the presidency. It hasn’t happened for over 170+ years and that’s a long damn time since the last time a person representing an independent party has ever held office. The only successes an independent party ever sees is smaller governments or some seats somewhere in the house or senate, that’s about it.

But every election cycle, people are hamming up about how it’s going to be the year for independents, until the primaries come and go and we’re back to falling on two parties. I’ve stopped getting my hopes up and I stopped hoping the moment Bernie Sanders, who originally did run as an independent for the presidential election in 2016, had to turn to running as a democrat because even he realized that was the only way he was going to get votes at all.

One other thing and it’s gaming related is that, there are still Nintendo fans out there hoping for a Mother 3 english release. It’s a game that was released in 2006 and it never left Japan since. Despite all of the re-releases of Mother and Earthbound, Mother 3 has not gotten a localization. It’s been released as a fan translation and I feel that’s the best we’re ever going to get.

It’s been 18 years since it’s original release and I think there’s no point in hoping now for Nintendo to release it. They’re too busy suing people.

And then he stepped down to officially endorse Hellary. I often wonder how many family members did they threaten to murder if he didn’t step down and back her.

He endorsed her because there were a bunch of fools thinking “HUH?! A CLINTON RUNNING?! IS SHE…IS SHE GONNA BRING THINGS BACK TO THE 90S?! AND A WUMEN FOR PRESIDENT?! WE NEED TO MAKE HISTORUH!”

And look where that all got them. 4 years of misery. Stupid fucks. I want a woman president as any other but, I want a stronger candidate. Seems like it’ll be Harris and not some corporately-approved candidate that Clinton was.

    Society unfucking itself.

It seems like if things get bad enough, we’d adjust, but the air became poison and still is poison from covid, something that actively affects literally everybody right now in the present regardless of grouping, and we don’t just fail to address it, we sprint as hard as possible back towards trying to make things the way they were, which isn’t possible with poison air, so we get…this.

It’s not that covid was, it’s that covid still is our dry run for climate change, and we see what people are going to do: keep shooting you and themselves in the foot, and when you point out what’s going on, stab you in the face and go right back to working overtime to continue ruining things, and trying very hard to imply that they’re being reasonable.

If you want to see an independent win the presidency, vote for the only candidate in this election who has a reasonable chance of defeating the orange fascist, then put all your energy into campaigning for an end to FPTP

That said, I’ve given up hope on this country every treating fascists and white supremacists how they should be treated

It was never going to surpass Windows or MacOS, but it has been steadily growing in usage rate. I think now it’s at 5% of the market, largely off the back of Valve’s Steam Decks which may or may not count as desktop by your definition.

It’s just too technical to catch on for mainstream users, and that’s honestly fine. I think everyone would prefer Linux offer freedom instead of simplicity.

To it’s credit, Linux at least broke the glass ceiling of that 1% and managed to get 2%.

It’s something, took them almost like three some odd decades, but it’s something.

Me being independent and making a woman having an intimate relationship with me. I’m too weird, poor and incapable for that to happen.

Just to inject a little hope, plenty of weird, poor people have girlfriends. I don’t know anybody weirder than me, and my wife doesn’t mind.

You can’t ‘make’ someone have a relationship with you though. That’s illegal and reprehensible, but I’m sure you didn’t mean it that way

Who you attract depends on who you are. If you’re broken and weird, you’re going to attract broken and weird people.

And ideally, that’s not usually what someone wants if they want to be with someone.

I assume you’re a guy somewhere in their twenties.

Start going to the gym and lifting weights. I know it’s a cliché, but it’s the single most impactful thing you can do - not only for how others see you, but also for how you see yourself. It’s something everyone should be doing anyway, but it especially applies to people like you. Don’t do it for them, do it for yourself. I know how you feel, believe me - I used to be in your shoes.

It is cliché. Did that in my 20s for a while, serves to nothing. Also I’ve seen fatasses happily married and I’m not fat. I have less than 0 motivation at this point of my life, especially since I’m broke. I have other problems as well. A gym is another problem.

Sorry for your troubles. It seems like having an intimate relationship with a partner should probably be lower on your list. Hope you’re able to work towards a positive direction with your life in general…

You don’t have to be broken to be weird, it feels problematic to conflate the two.

But to take your point, I agree that you attract people based on the vibe that you’re putting out. If you don’t like who you’re attracting, then you can work on yourself and your vibe will improve too.

That’s a big mood. I honestly mean that. I don’t want to presume to know your situation, but from one human being to another I can tell you I’ve been there too. I low-key hope to get hit by a bus so I don’t have to put up with life anymore.

It’s a feeling that seems to come and go, and it can ratchet itself up to a feverish intensity. But every time I’ve been pushed to the brink so far, I’ve chosen life. When you stare death in the eye, you suddenly want to see one more sunrise.

If you’re having these thoughts with any kind of intensity or regularity, or you’ve started to put a plan together to end your life, then you owe it to yourself to attempt an intervention. Most people point to therapy, and if it’s available to you it’s worth a shot. And if therapy is unavailable or untenable, reading about psychology and non-pharmaceutical treatments for depression did wonders for my outlook.

The world is better with you in it. I’m rooting for you.

There’s a modified Chinese proverb I like that goes something like this:
Watch your emotions, for they become your thoughts.
Watch your thoughts, for they become your words.
Watch your words, for they become your actions.
Watch your actions, for they become your habits.
Watch your habits, for they become your destiny.

Basically the takeaway is that your emotions/attitude aren’t the end point, they’re the start point. The pattern in your comments keep reading of Self-Loathing. That emotion is forming itself into your thoughts and words. Anger management techniques are critical to controlling this metaphorical “curse” you’re under.

The days of having a good user interface for electronics or programs is long gone and is never coming back. To many people don’t even know how to look at a user interface and know if it’s good or bad. They just buy bad ones and claim it’s good out good enough.

That the US will never have net neutrality as a whole. A few states might implement it but no where near enough.

Prior to the 2016 election, I was hopeful that the freedom caucus and the rest of the far right was getting too crazy for the general public, and that its support would collapse leading to a bit of a normalization of politics.

    Wishful thinking, in retrospect.
